Description

Patented December 8, 1903.
PATENT GFFICE.
HELEN M. KISSLING, OF ORIOLE, INDIANA.
FAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 746,524, dated December 8, 1903.
Application filed June 20, 1903.
To aZZ whom it may concern..-
4 Be it known that I, HELEN M. KISSLING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oriole, in the county of Perry and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fans, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fans; and the object of the same is to provide a simple and effective construction whereby a greater amount of air will be impelled toward the user without requiring unusual exertion.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The drawing shows a perspective view of a fan embodying the features of the invention.
The numeral 1 designates the frame or body of the fan, which may be of any shape other than that shown and has a central rectangular opening 2 and an integral depending handle 3, bymeans of which the fan as an en-' tirety may be oscillated. Within the opening 2 and mounted to freely rotate is a wing or beater 4, made of a shape corresponding to and of materially less dimensions than the opening 2 to permit unretarded rocking or oscillating movement of the said wing or beater. The wing or heater 4 is movably held within the frame or body 1 by pivot-pins 5, secured to the side walls of said frame or Serial No. 162,444. (No model.)
body and centrally engaging the wing or beater at opposite points.
In operation the fan is oscillated and the wing or beater will be simultaneously oscillated, and a greater quantity of air'will thus be impelled toward the user without undue exertion.
It is proposed to construct the fan of any suitable material and also to ornament the parts thereof, as may be desired.
It is obvious that changes in the proportions and dimensions may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim asnew, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is-
A fan comprising a frame having a central rectangular opening therein, and an integral handle, a flat wing or beater made of a shape corresponding to the opening and pivoted centrally therein and between its ends to the side bars of said frame so as to have a rocking or oscillating movement between. the surrounding walls of said opening, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HELEN M. KISSLING.
