Description

I. YOST. Corn-Popper,
No. 199,770. Patented Jan. 29,1878.
'WFFNEEEEE- INVENTU N. PETERS. FHOTO-LITHOGRAPMER, WASHINGTON D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE,
IRvINYosr, or THORNVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN 'CORN-POPPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1993 70, dated January 29, 1878; application filed January 12, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
ville, in the county of Perry and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Poppers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ,of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in corn-peppers; and it consists in the arrangement and combination of parts, whereby the popper can be made to constantly revolve by the thumb of the hand in which it is held, as will be more fully described.
The accompanying drawings represent my invention.
a represents a wire cage, in which the corn is placed to be popped, and which may be of any desired construction. Rigidly secured to one end of this cage is the rod or handle a, made of wood or any other suitable material, and of any length or construction desired. To the outer end of this rod is firmly secured the flat disk 0?, which has preferably a corrugated or otherwise suitably-roughened edge, so that the thumb or finger will readily catch hold upon it. 'If desired, this disk may be made quite large, so as to act as a protector Be it known that I, IRVIN YosT, of Thornfor the hand from the heat, though it will act equally as well to rotate the popper when made small.
Projecting outward fi'om the end of the handle c is an iron rod, 0, of suitable length and thickness, upon which is loosely secured the handle 9.
By taking the handle 9 in the hand and applying the thumb to the edge of the disk d, the popper can be made to revolve rapidly or slowly, as may be desired.
If preferred, instead of using theiron rod 0,
the extension for the handle 9 to turn upon may be made a part of the handle 0 by turning them both from a single piece'of wood.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The combination of the popper a, handle 0, disk (1, and handle g, the popper being made to revolve by the application of a finger to the disk, substantially as shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day of January, 1878.
IRVIN YOST.
