MITTEN.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,524, dated February 8, 1881.

Application filed November 30, 1880.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, DAVIDll/I. HAIGHT and FRANK STROSSMAN, of Oswego, in the county of Kendall and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Mittens; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a front view. Fig.2 is a back view. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 4 is a view of the facing. Fig. 5 is a perspective detail of a modification.

This invention relates to mittens; and it consists in the construction hereinafter specifled.

(ModeL) sents a mitten of any suitable material, such as leather, canvas, or duck.

B represents a facing, which is to be quilted upon the front or palm side of the mitten. This facing consists either of separate strips of material, a, or else a whole piece, b, having slits 0 cut therein and forming strips d. This facing is made of any suitable material, the gist of the invention consisting in its being in strips, and therefore flexible and readily yielding.

Thisinvention can be applied not only to what is ordinarily known as mittens, but also to any kind of glove.

What we claim is-- r l. A mitten having a facing made in strips and quilted to the same.

2. A mitten having a facing upon its palm side made in strips.
