Description

C. M. WILLIAMS.
BIN.
APPLICATION FILED AUG 5| 1921.
1,408,054 I Patented Feb. 28, 1922.
UNITED STATES PATENT orrlcs.
CHARLES M. WILLIAMS. OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
IBIN.
Application filed August 5, 1921.
and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Bin, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to. a bin for flour, sugar-or the like, moreparticularly adapted for usein recesses in the walls of kitchens but applicable inother places and the objects of my invention are; first, to provide a bin for flour, sugar or the like which is so balanced that it easily moves into and out of the recess in which it is located and balances at any angle with anyload; second, to provide a bin of this class which gradual-ly tilts with its outward movement: third, to provide a novelly constructed means for supporting a bin of this class;
fourth, to provide a bin of this class which,
may be easily removed for cleaning and the like and fifth, to provide a bin of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, easy to install, easy to operate,
eiiicient' in its action and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
lVith these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features of construe tion, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure l is a side elevational view of my bin shown mounted in position in the recess in which it is to be operated, the wall of which is shown in section, and showing by dotted lines the relative positions of the various parts when opened out of the recess and ready for use and Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of a fragmentary portion of the bin shown positioned in the recess walls, some of which walls are shown'in section to facilitate the illustration.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the views of the drawings.
The bin 1, hangers 2, supports 3, arm members 4, keepers 5, brackets 6 and recess walls 7 constitute the principal parts and portions of my bin structure.
The recess for the bin 1 is preferably pro- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 489,951.
vided with side walls 7 to which the various supporting members are connected. However, this recess may be simply provided with a front opening 7 and in case there are no side walls for the recess there may be provided cross bars extending from the front backwardly for supporting" the screws for the various supports as hereinafter dcscribed.
This bin 1 is shaped as shown best in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, of rectangular shape tapered downwardly at the back and provided with a curved upper side, open at the top. This bin 1 is provided near the lower back corner at each side with a screw 1 on each side which is adapted to rest in slots 2 in the hangers '2 which are shaped as shown best in Figsl and 2 of the drawings, provided with curves near their lower ends and their upper ends are pivotally connected to the opposite walls of the recess 7 by means of screws 7 It will be noted that this hanger member 2 is provided with. a plurality of holes 2* whichare adapted for the adjustment of the member 2, and therefore the relative adjustment of the bin sup- 7 1 port relatively to the side wall of the recess.
This bin 1 is also provided with screws 1? on opposite sides near the front uppercorner and these screws 1 are adapted to fit 1n the slots 3 in the upper ends of the sup- The lower ends of these supports ports a. 3. are provided with rivets 3 which are adapted to reciprocate in the slots 6 in the brackets 6. Pivotally connected to these supports 3 some distance from the rivet 3 is the arm member 4 by means of rivets 4", there being one of these arm'members 4 on each side and these arm members 4 are supported in a horizontal position on the side walls 7 of the recess in which the bin is mounted by means of the keepers 5 which are supported on the. wall by means of screws 5 and the upper ends of the brackets 6 are provided with a keeper portion in which said members 4 are reciprocably mounted and these-brackets 6 are secured to the side walls of the recess 7 by means of screws 6 one of the screws 6 being secured tp the lower end of said bracket below the s 0t 6.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and ar rangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, Combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
It is obvious that with this construction there is provided a bin for flour, sugar or the like which is mounted in a recess or upon side walls and so supported that the device will balance and remain in any position in which it is left in opening the same; that the back side is tilted upwardly and lower side is tilted downwardly with the outward movement of said bin relatively to its supporting walls; that the member 4 moves in horizontal position so that the lower end of the member 3 raises and lowers and is guided in its reciprocal movement in the slots 6 in the bracket 6 and moves easily inwardly or outwardly and remains balanced at all times regardless of the load in the bin; that the bin may be removed from its support by moving the bin out of its recess, then raising the front part of the bin so that the screw 1 is removed from the slot 3 and lifting the rear of the bin so that the screws l areremoved from the slot 2.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A device of the class described, including side walls with a front opening, a bin adapted to'fit' therein provided with a curved upper open side, hangers pivotally mounted on the walls of said recess at their upper ends and their lower ends pivotally con-t upper open side, hangers pivotally mounted otally and vertically shiftable in brackets securedto the walls of the recess and bars horizontally shiftable pivotally connected to said supports intermediate their ends.
3. A device of the class described, including side walls with a front opening, a bin adapted to fit therein provided with a curved upper open side, hangers pivotally mounted on the walls of said recess at their upper ends and their lower ends pivotally connected to the lower back corners of said bin, other supports connected to the front upper sides of said bin and its lower end pivotally and vertically shifta-ble in brackets secured to the walls of the recess and a bar horizontally shiftable pivotally connected to said support intermediate its ends and means se cured to the "walls of said recess adapted to support said horizontally shiftable support.
41-. A device of the class described, including a receptacle open at its upper side, a recess with walls on opposite sides and open in its front side, hanger members adjustably mounted in the back side of said recess on said Walls and their lower ends curved and provided with slots in the upper side thereof and means connecting them with the lower back corners of said bin, vertical bars pivotally connected with the upper front corners of said bin and thelower ends shiftable vertically, means for supporting the lower ends of said supports at the lower front corner of the recess walls and a bar pivotally connected to said support intermediate its ends and means for supporting it for controlling its horizontal shifting.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto setmy hand at San Diego, California, this 29th day of July, 1921.
