UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
REILS LARSEN, OF MILL CITY, COLORADO TERRITORY.
IMPROVEMENT IN MINERS CANDLE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,297, dated May 26, 1874; application filed March 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NEILS LARSEN, of Mill City, in the county of Clear Creek and Territory of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Miners Oandle-Holder, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an edge view, showing the hook extended as when hung on the wall for supporting the candle. Fig. 2 is a plan view, showing all the,
parts in their proper position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a bow-spring. B is a pin, riveted to the side 0, and made fast therein. The other end of the pin passes through the other part D of the bow-spring, so that that part of the spring can spread or move outward on the end of the pin. E is the hook by which the candle-holder is hung up, as seen in Fig. 1. F is an awl, which can be stuck in the wall, or in any wooden fixture, for supporting the candleholder. G is a blade similar to a pocket-knife blade. This blade is convenient for many purposes in themine. All these parts (the hook,
the awl, and the blade) are attached to the pin B, and are held in position (as they may be wanted when in use) by means of ribs and recesses, (Seen in Fig. 2.) The spring of the bow A holds the ribs in the recesses, but the ends of the spring are allowed to spread on the pin when either part is turned outward from the bow A, as before mentioned. His the ring for the candle, formed by an elongation of the end 0 of the spring.
This candle-holder may be carried in the pocket, the awl being then folded down within the bow, as seen in Fig. 2. Provided with this combined device, the miner enters the mine feeling prepared for all the contingencies which are likely to occur.
Having thus described my invention, I clail as new, and desire to secure by Letters Pat- The combination, with bow A, provided with the rivet B, hook E, and sticker F, of the candle-holder H, as and for the purpose specified.
