MINERS CANDLESTICK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,166, dated September 3, 1889.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, DAVID BICE JAMES, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and useful Miners Candlestick, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in miners candlesticks, the object thereof being to provide a simple and cheap candlestick for use by miners; and it consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, substantially as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the annexed drawing the figure shown thereon is a perspective view of my improved candlestick.

In carrying my invention into practical effect I provide a strip of spring metalsuch as steelwhich is bent backward upon itself, so as to form a loop A at the point where it is bent, which loop is easily adapted to be grasped by the handof the person using the candlestick, and the steel strip forms also the shorter arm having the slot B and the longer arm having the point E at its extremity and formed with a knife-edge G and also with a notch I-I. These two arms of the main portion of the candlestick lie alongside of The longer arm is provided with a loop 0, which passes through the slot B in the shorter arm, one end of said loop being firmly connected to the long arm, while the other end projects through said arm and is provided with a hooked portion F.

In using my improved candlestick the candle will be inserted in the loop 0, with the shorter arm of the frame pressing against it, so as to hold it firmly within the loop. Ihe knife portion of the longer arm is used for the purpose of cutting fuse and the circular notch is used for the purpose of fastening caps to fuse. A

My improved candlestick may be either hung to an object by means of the hook F or it may be stuck into an object by pressing the point E into said object.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a candlestick for use by miners, the spring-metal frame having a slotted shorter arm and the longer arm provided with a knifeedge, in combination with the loop passing through the slotted arm, substantially as described.

2. In a candlestick for miners use, the springmetal frame forming the slotted shorter arm, the longer arm having the pointed extremity, a knife-edge, and a circular notch, and the loop connected to the longer arm, passing through the slotted arm, and provided with a hook, substantially as described.

3. In a miners candlestick, the metal frame bent at A and having the slotted shorter arm, the longer arm pointed at E, having a knifeedge G and notch II, and the loop 0, passing through the slotted arm, together with its hooked end F, substantially as described.
