IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED RULER AND LETTER-SCALES.

To all whom lit may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. WYcKoEE, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a Combined Ruler and Letter-Scale, of which the following is a specification:
In Letters Patent No. 181,236, granted to me, a rule and protraeto combined is set forth.
My present invention relates to an improvement in Which the rule is adapted to use as a letter-scale.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of the rule in use as a scale. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same, partially in section.
The rule ais preferably made of sheet metal, with divisions into inches and fractions thereof, and with the protractor portionb substantially as in the aforesaid patent.
There is also a hollow cylinder, d, at the edge of the rule, as in said patent; but the plugs e and 'i at the ends contain, one a 'ulcrum-Wire`,f, and the other a swinging' spring letterclip, g. These plugs, when inserted, form ornamental ends to the cylinder d; but when the plug eis reversed the letter-clip PATENT OFFICE.

The plug i, with its fulcrumwiref, is used to suspend the rule and allow of its use as a letter'scale. When theletter has been clasped by the springclip the fulcrum-pin is applied through one of the holes in the rule at the proper place to allow the rule to hang level, and the marks upon the rule at these points indicate ounces and fractions; hence the Weight of the letter is easily ascertained. When not required as a scale, the plugs are inserted at the ends ofthe cylinder d, as seen in Fig. 2.
I claim as my invention- The ruler made with a hollow cylinder at one edge, in combination with a reversible plug and letter-holder, a plug and t'ulcrumpin, and perforations in the ruler, forming the divisions of the letterscale, substantiallyvv as set forth;
