Description
(No Model.)
G. LAUBE. SPIRIT LEVEL,
No. 436,005. I Patented Sept. 9, 1890.
@WQWWJ W WM UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GODFRIED LAUBE, OF HURON, SOUTH DAKOTA.
SPIRIT-LEVEL,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 436,005, dated September 9, 1890.
Application filed May 5 1890. Serial No- 350|578- (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GODFRIED LAUBE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Huron, in the county of Beadle and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Spirit- Levels, Rules, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the'same.
I My invention relates to a combined pocket implement comprisin g a spirit-level, rule, leadpencil or tool holder, and calendar.
The main object of my invention is the provision of aconvenientpocketimplementwhich shall be applicable to the uses named. With this end in view I mount in a wooden block in any desired manner a translucent tube containing spirits, mercury, or other suitable fluid that will answer the purpose, or, in other Words, such a tube as is ordinarily employed in spirit-levels in common use. On one side i of the block I provide a carpenter s rule, di-
vided into. inches and fractions of an inch,
of the block is a perforation closed atits open end by a movable lid or shutter, which affords a convenient receptacle for a lead-pen- While the invention is pricil or small tool.
The rule may be marily designed as a combined pocket implement, yet it is obvious that it could be em ployed with spirit-levels of the regulation size.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters are placed on like parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a perspective of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, one corner being broken away; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same.
A is an ordinary spirit-level/ (Shown as of a size convenient for the pocket.)
B is a rule, divided into inches and fractions of an inch, on one side of the spirit-level.
O is a calendar of any desired kind on the other side of the spirit-level.
D is a longitudinal perforation in the spiritlevel for receiving a pencil or small tool, and E is a pivoted or, it may be, sliding plate mounted on one end of the level and serving to retain the pencil in place.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
A combined pocket implement comprising a spirit-level provided with a rule on one side and a calendar on the other, said implement having a longitudinal perforation adapted to receive alead-pencil or small tool, and a plate at one end for covering the perforation, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GODFRIED LAUBE.
