UNITED STATES ATENT FFICE.
DANIEL C. NICKERSON, OF PHILLIPSBURG, MONTANA.
KEY-TAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 582,671, dated May 18, 1897.
Application filed February 3, 1897. Serial No. 621,830. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL G. NIOKERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Phillipsburg, in the county of Granite and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key-Tags; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same.
My invent-ion has relation to improvements in key-tags; and the object is to provide a simple and convenient device of-this kind for the use of travelers and other transient persons whose business or habits require them to change their address more or less often.
To this end the novelty consists in the 0011- struction, combination, and arrangement of thesame, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings the same reference-characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved key-tag. Fig. 2 is.a side elevation of the same, showing the tag partly withdrawn from its case; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank before it is folded to form the case.
1 represents the case, which is approximately oval in form, and it comprises the integral parallel sides 2 3 and the integral spring-tongue 4:.
5 is an ordinary key-ring, which is inserted through the orifices 6 6 in the sides. I
7 represents the leaf or tag proper, and it is pivoted in the case on a rivet 8, passing through the sides. This rivet also serves to hold the sides togetherin addition to supporting the leaf or tag 7.
The lower or free end of the tagis provided with a notch 9, which engages the detent 10 on the tongue 4 to hold the same when closed in the case. Athumb-nail recess 12 is formed in one side of the tag 7, and a corresponding alined recess 13 is formed in one of the sides of the case for conveniently withdrawing the tag. This tag or leaf 7 is preferably made of ivory, celluloid, or a material coated with silica or any suitable substance adapted to receive an erasable pencil-mark. The name and address of the holder may be written on one or both sides and the address changed as often as it becomes necessary.
The case itself maybe made of aluminium or any suitable metal or material and the usual advertising placed on its sides.
Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.
I-Iavin g thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new and useful, and desire to I secure by Letters Patent of the United States,
A key-tag comprising the case 1, formed with the integral sides 2 3 and tongue 4, in combination with the pivoted leaf 7, provided with the retaining-notch 9, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DANIEL C. NICKERSON.
