Description

Sept. 30 1924.
I 1,509,940 L. M. v ELLIOTT BOTTLE HOLDER Filed June 21. 1925 la lym MZ'Z O Z Patented Sept. 30, 1924.
PATENT GFFIfiE.
LILYAN M. ELLIUTT, ()1? SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
BOTTLE Application filed June 21,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LILYAN M. ELLIOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Holders, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates in particular to nursing bottle holders adapted to be tastened around the neck of a nursing bottle and provided with suitable means for attaching same to a crib or other object.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a simple device for attaching a nursing bottle to a crib.
Another object is to provide a ring having an easily adjustable clamp for attaching to the neck of a nursing or other bottles of various sizes, the said ring being provided with a cord or chain and other rings for attaching same to the bar of a crib or to some part of an infants high cl air or baby carriage to prevent the bottle from being thrown to the iioor or ground and broken.
Another object is to provide an easily adjustable hinged clamp in connection with a flexiblering, having a semi-hard rubber or cork lining, said ring having a notched and grooved tongue at its other end adapted to fit into the hollow hinged member and be clamped down tight by a set screw having preferably a milled edge.
Another object is to provide a ring, having a chain attached thereto, adapted to be attached to any type of bottle to prevent it from being dislodged from its normal resting place and being thrown to the floor or ground and broken.
The matter constituting my invention will be defined in the claims.
I will now describe my invention in detail by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 represents an elevation of a nursing bottle holder showing the hollow hinged locking member partly in cross section, and a chain attached thereto.
Fig. 2 represents a view of the outer periphery of the hollow hinged locking member showing method 01 attaching to one end of the ring.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the ring on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an end view of the opening in the free end of the hinged locking member.
HOLDER.
1923. Serial No. 646,938.
Fig. 5 is a view or" the inner periphery of the hinged locking member showing method of attaching to the ring and a portion of the notched tongue of the ring inserted therein.
The flexible and adjustable bottle holder A, is composed of the open metal ring portion B, having an interior groove 13, and a resilient rubber or cork ring C inserted in said groove B and extending from the point X to the point X. The ring B is provided at one end with a tongue D, having a plurality of grooves E and notches E on its inner periphery, said tongue being adapted to it into the free and open end of the hollow locking member F which is attached to the other end or" the open ring 13 at the point G by a rivet or pin H. The hollow hinged locking member F is provided at the opening L with a bar M to form a square opening and for another purpose hereinaiter described, theremainder of the hinged member being open on the inner periphery and closed on the sides and outer periphery, except at the point G where the outer periphery is cut away slightly to permit oi afree movement on the rivet H which passes through the sides of the member F at one end and the end oi the ring B, which its therein, thereby forming a hinge. The hollow member F is provided at the point I with a set-screw K, having preferably a milled edge. The ring 13 is also provided with a small ring N at the point N and to the ring N is attached a cord or chain 0 provided with a small ring 0', to which is attached a cord or chain P provided with a snap ring P to be fastened to the ring 0.
My invention is adapted primarily to be attached to a nursing bottle and also to some portion of: a crib, infants high chair, baby carriage or other object, to prevent the bottle from being thrown to the floor and broken, but I wish it to be understood that I do not limit my invention to this particular purpose, for the ring itself can be made in various sizes and adjustably fastened to larger bottles or jars, for example, it may be attached to a milk bottle which is placed on a window ledge and the chain or cord attached to a fixed hook, eye-screw or other object within the window opening, so that the bottle will not be carelessly knocked to the ground and broken.
The ring B being flexible and also pro vided with the hollow hinged locking member F and the notched tongue D, permits it to be easily adjustedto nursing or other hottles having necks of slightly varying sizes. This novel adjustable ring clamp will be made in standard sizes and the adjustable feature of each size will permit it to be used on varying sized bottle necks. The tongue D, at one end of the ring portion B, is provided With a plurality of grooves and notches E on theinner periphery. This tongue is inserted'inthe opening L of the member and 'ad'jnsted by means of the grooves E fitting over the barhit on the inner periphery otthe' said member F, so that the bar M rests between two of the notches 3. hen the to g-tie is properly adjusted the set screw K, which is'posit-ioned'in the outer periphery of 'the member F, is screwed down tight'against the outer "periphery of the tongue" D to'hold itfin place and thereby prevent the ring fronrslipping off of the neckof the bottle.
"llhe rin 'g Bis provided with an annular groove B wit'hin its inner periphery'and in this groove'i's 'inserted a ring C ofinedium hard "rubberor cork, extending trom the point to the'point' X to prevent the metal ringfrom slipping vor coming into Contact with the neek or the bottle.
Thecha-ili orcord' O; which is attached to the ring means of the ring N at the point'N, is provided at its other end with a ring 0 to whichis attached another cort or clia in'P- lia'v'ing' asn'ap' ring P attached thereto, said chain P'being employed to fasten around some'objectsueh as'a'cribbar orcrib' rail and the snap Pf attached to the ring OCThi's ehain may be short or long according to the distance from the place where it is attached to the floor. course the chain will be of such a length as to permitt-he use of the bottle.
Havin described my invention, what I claim and desire to secureby Letters Patent, isz
1. A circular member of metal or other flexible material lined with rubber or co'rle a hollow'lockingmember hinged to one end of said circularmember and having a bar on itsinner periphery and a tongue having a plurality of transverse grooves and notches, fixed to and forming a part of or continuation of said circular ring member. adapted to fit into the hollow locking mem-- ber and be locked in position by a thumb screw positioned on the outer periphery of the said hollow locking member substantially opposite said bar.
2. A hollow locking member riveted at one end to one end of a flexible ring member, forming a hinge said lot-hing member having a set screw fitted into the outer pe riphery of its opposite end, said ring mem ber having a tongue provided with a pinrality of grooves and notches and adapted to'be inserted in the open and l'ree end ot said locking member, said locking member having a bar connecting its sides at its inner periphery, said bar being adapted to lit into the grooves andbetween the Wittlits within the inner periphery of said tongue and said set screw adapted to be -:ere\ve l against the outer periphery oi said tongue to hold it in place against the bar in the free and open end of the said loelzing member to hold the ring securely in plaee around the neek'of a bottle.
In combination with an annular meta member, having a lining of suitable material to form a cushion, a hollow locking member fixed to one end and a grooved and notched tongue fixed to and forming a part oi the other end. of said annular member. said tongue being adapted to be inserted in one end of the hollow locking member and be fixed in place by means of a bar extending across the open end of the. hollow locking member and a thumb or set screw positioned in tlie outer periphery of said locking member said annular member being mlapted to be attached to the neck of a bottle or jar or any other object to which it may be adapted. and having fixed to it a chain or card said cord or chain being provided at its other end with 'a plain ring, a "elatively sho t chain or cord, and a snap ring for attaching same to some other object.
In testimony whereof I atiix nrv signature.
