Description
SIEGEL Sept. 9 1924.
CORSET "F1196 dan. 1B.
lilA:
Patented sepa;i e, 1924,
UNITED ser JOSEPH SIEGEL, 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNR TO AMERICAN LADY CORSET COM PANY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OIEIVIICHIGAN. j
CORSET.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH SIEGEL, a citi- Zen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to corsets and consists in certain 'features of construction hereinafter fully set forth and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein;
Figure l is a front view of the upper portion of the improved corset;
Figure 2 is a similar view with certain parts broken away;
Figure 3 shows the garment in side elevation in use; j
In these views the reference character A designates the improved corset and B in dicates detachably connected vertical edges thereof, which are shown at the front of the garment, but for the purpose of the invention may have any desired circumferential location. The connecting means similarly may have various forms, but as illustrated comprises metallic pin and loop connections C. These connections are carried by a pair of busks D which are concealed in the garment in the usual manner, in proximity to the edges B. At the top of the garment, portions E thereof located at each side of the edges B, have the nature of upstanding projections, this effect resulting from extend ing apertures F downwardly from the upper edge of the garmentin a symmetrical relation to the edges B. Closures for said apertures are formed bya pair of flaps G stitched respectively to the remote edges of the apertures F as indicated 4at G', and suitable fastenings, as for example, the hook and eye members I-I, provide for a quick detachable connection between said flaps. It is preferred to arrange the connected edges of the sufficient freedom to flexibly conform tothe body of the wearer, responsive to a forward bending movement, or responsive to f any` movementof the body, subjecting said end portions' to an increased bending stress. Consequently, under such circumstances, an uncomfortable pressure has been exerted abdominally upon the body by said `busks or steels. The present invention eliminates this discomfort by avoiding anylateral con nection between the portions E of the garment, engaged -by the upper end portions of the busks D, and .the body of the garment. I hus said portions E and the busk end portions are not restrained from outward flexing but will vield freely under any increased body pressure.
It is to be observed that the iaps G extend across the apertures F so as to provide a closure for said apertures and maintain a substantially continuous marginal line at the top of the garment.
l/Vhat I claim as my invention is:`
l. A waist-embracing garment havin detachably connected vertical edges and aving openings formed in its top portion at each side of said edges providing upstandlng portions marginal to said edges, mem bers secured to said garment at the remote edges of said openings and closing the latter, and means for detachably securing said members together in rear of one of said up-- standing portions.
2. A waist-embracing garment havin de tachably connected vertical edges and aving openings formed .inv its top portion at each side of said edges providing 'upstanding portions marginal to said edges, mem bers secured directly to said garment at the remote edges of said openings and extending in rear of said upstanding portions to close said openings, and means for detach` ably securing saidmembers together.
3. A waist-embracing garment having detachably connected vertical edges and havn ing openings formed in its top portion at each side of said edges providing upstanding portions marginal to said edges, members secured to said garment at the remote edges of said openings and closing the latter, one of said members extending beyond the vertical edges of said garment, and
means for detachably 'securing said memj bers together in rear of one of said upstand ing portions. v
Waisfembraeing garment .having Vertieal edges and having openings formed in its top portion at eaoli side of said edges providing upstzinding portions marginal to seid edges, members secured to said garnient at the remote edges of said openings and closing the letter, buslzs concealed in said garment and extending` upwardly into seid npstanding portions, means carried by said bnsks for detaolialilv securing the Vertienl edges of said garment together7 vand ineens independent or the securing means 'aforesaid Jfor securing `seid members ltogetlier.
weist-embracing garment having delinbly connected vertical edges and 'havopenings formed in its top portion at l i side of seid vedges providing upstanding `pertions marginal to said edges7 relaii,5os,oso
tively Wide flaps/secured tl garment at the remote edges of said openings, said flaps extending from below the lower edges of said openings and termingting veven with the upper edges of seid garment, and means for securing said members together.
6. A Waist-embracing garment having deteeliably connected Vertical edges and liar- Aing openings :formed in its top portion at each side of said edges providing npstanding portions marginal to `said edgesa and n flap permanently secured to one of the `remote edgeso said openings, and means detacliably engagea-ble with said flap Carried by the otlierot said remote edges, the said npstanding portions lying outside ot' said flap.,
lin-testimony whereof vll affix my signature.
