UNH'EE STATES ADOLIEH J. SHARY, QF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SMOKING SET.
Application filed August 14, 1923,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH J. SI-IARY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Smoking Sets, described and claimed in the following specification.
This invention relates to smoking sets especially adapted to be used in closed automobile machines and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a smoking set which may be used. as a receptacle for matches, cigars, cigarettes and ashes and which may be attached to the sill of the window of the car body.
A further object of the invention is to provide in a smoking set of the character stated means for supporting and retaining a box of matches within the receptacle and in providing an opening in the receptacle whereby the match striking surface of the box is exposed and the match may be removed from the box and struck without removing the box from the receptacle.
A further object "of the invention is to provide in combination with the receptacle and the match box retaining means a shield flange for preventing sparks from flying from the matches as they are struck and lodging upon the polished surfaces of the wood work of the car body adjacent the receptacle.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the smoking set showing the same applied to the window sill of a car body.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the smoking set with parts thereof broken away and parts shown in section.
, The smoking set includes a receptacle 5 which is substantially rectangular and which is provided with an upwardly extending rear side having an angularly disposed flange 2 adapted to be secured to the sill 3 of a window by means of screws 10 or other suitable securing devices. A partition 4.- is disposed transversely across the interior of the receptacle 5 and is spaced from the adjacent end wall of the receptacle. An ash tray 6 is Serial No. 6572795 adapted to be received within the receptacle 5 and is provided at one of its side walls with a flange 9 adapted to engage over one of the end walls of the receptacle 5. That end wall of the receptacle 5 which isadjacent and opposite the partition wall A is provided with an opening 8 and the receptacle 5 is provided at the same end with a flange 1 which is disposed along the inner edge of the opening 8 and which extends slightly above and slightly below the upper and lower edges of the opening 8. The flange 1 lies in the same plane as the back wall of the reoeptacle 5 and is adapted to rest against part of the frame of the body of the automobile machine as best shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. A substantially U- shaped match box body support 7 is mounted upon the bottom of the tray 5 and is located between the partition wall 4 and that end wall of the receptacle which is provided with the opening 8. A match box is adapted to be inserted in the compartment formed between the partition wall 4 and the end wall of the receptacle which is provided with the opening 8 and the box casing which is provided with a match striking surface extends the full length of the opening 8 and the body of the match box rests upon the upper side of the support 7 and the upper end portion of the body of the box is projected slightly above the upper edge of the receptacle 5 as shown in the drawing. Therefore a match may be readily extracted from the body of the box and struck upon the ex posed surface of the casing and which is extended along the opening 8. When the match is struck as hereinbefore stated the sparks that fly from the same are prevented by the flange 1 from coming in contact with the polished surface of the wood work of the body of the automobile machine.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is A smoking set comprising a receptacle having an end wall provided with an opening, a partition wall disposed transveresly of the receptacle and spaced from the end wall thereof which is provided with the opening, a match box body support mounted upon the bottom of the receptacle and lo of the receptacle having the opening, said c-ated between the partition wall and the end flange having end portions which extend Wall of the receptacle which is provided with above and below the upper and lower edges 1 the opening, means for attaching the recepof the opening and the said flange adapted 5 tacle to the frame Work of an automobile mato bear against the frame of the body of? the chine, said receptacle having at its rear side automobile machine. a flange Which is disposed beyond that end ADOLPH J. SHARY.
