Be it known that LEOPOLD Przzu'rmnno, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have made certain new and useful Im rovements in Hats, of which the following is a description taken connection with the accompanying drawings My invention relates to improvements in hats and more particularly to a hat with concealed ventilators. My invention further relates to certain articles of manufacture, combinations and details of construction to be more full and pointed out in t e claims.

Fig. 1 is a side elevation, partly in vertical section, of one form of hat equipped with my invention;

Fig. 2 is a vertical section showing a different arrangement of the ventilating 26 means; Fig. 3 is a vertical section of a modification having slightly different ventilating means.

Prior to my invention it has been old to so supply hats with ventilating means which were conspicuous and which detracted from the beauty of the hat.

By my invention I provide a hat with ventilating means which are concealed, 5 preferably by the hat band. While my invention is ada ted to be applied to any form of hat, I iave shown it applied to a derby 1, having a crown 2, and a brim 3, the former provided with a plurality of a0 holes 4, 4, which are concealed by the hat band 5. The sweat-band 6 is also preferably provided with a plurality of ventilating holes 7, 7, these holes registering with the holes 4. 4 1n the crown of the hat. Sufiicient 5 air will readily pass through the hat band 5 to ventilate the hat.

It will be clear, therefore, that a derby '1, a soft hat, straw hat, or any other form of headgear, would be adequately ventilated by my invention, without the beauty of the hat and the symmetry of its lines being hereinafter described marred by obtruding and conspicuous ventilating means. 7

In some cases I may employ an intermediate member between the crown 2 of the hat and the hat band 5, as for example, a strip of cambric 8. This intermediate member covers the holes 4, 4 and forms a support for that portion of the hat band 5 which covers the holes, preventing the portion of the hat band 1 ing over the holes sagging into the holes. of large open mesh does not interfere wit the circulation of air through the hat.

In some cases I may omit this intermediate member 8, as for example in Fi 3. In Fig. 1, the holes 4, 4 in the crown 0 the hat and the holes 7, 7 in the sweatband 6 extend entirely around the hat.

In Fig. 2 I have shown a slight modifi .cation of my invention in which the holes 4, 4 in the crown 2, and the holes 7, 7 in the sweatband 6, are located simply in the front and rear of the hat. 7

In Fi 3 I have shown a modification in which t e crown 2 of the hat is provided with a pluralit of small ventilating holes 9, 9, the sweat and 6 being also provided with similar small ventilating holes 10, 10. These holes 9, 9 in the crown are covered and concealed by the hat band 5 as in the other form. It is, of course, obvious that various forms of ventilating holes may be employed and that combinations of large an small holes may be used all coming within the terms of my invention.

Having thus described this invention in connection with illustrative, embodiments thereof, to the details of which I do not desire to be limited, what is claimed as new and what is desired to secure by Letters Patent is set forth in the appended claims.

What I claim is 1. A new article of manufacture comprising a felt hat provided with ventilating holes extending through the crown, a flat sweat band provided with registering ventilating holes, a foraminous woven ventilatingfabric extending around the exterior of the hat over the ventilating holes to give support to the hat band and prevent the sagging of the hat band into the holes, and

2. A new. article of manufacture compris- & in a felt hat provided with ventilating nous woven ventilating fabric extending 10 around the exterior of the hat over the ventilating holes to give support to the hat band and prevent the sagging of the hat band into the holes, and a closely woven hat band mounted over the foraminous woven ventilating fabric and concealing the ventilating holes.
