Application filed March 29, 1923. $eria1 No. 628,495.
To all union) it may concern:
a citizen of the United States, residing at Ghicagdfin the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Lnprovements in Powder Rece taclcs, of which the following is a speci cation. I
This invention relates to improvements in powder receptacles.
The primary object of this invention is the provision of a relatively simple and compact type of powder box or receptacle, en'ibodying novel means for supporting a put? therein.
A further object o1" this invention is the provision oi a novel lid or closure member for powder receptacles, embodying novel constructions to permit a powder putt to be detachably associated therewith in such manner thatthe pull may be suspended where the same may be easily placed or dotached asdesircd. i
Other objects and adxuntages of this invention will be apparent during the course oi. the following amuse description.
I in the accompanying drawing. forming a part of this specification, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts thrtmghmit the several news,
Figure 1 is a side-"eleyntl m of ore" d powder receptacle.
l' are 2 is a trm'isverse cross sectional view takenuthrough tlwimproved powder receptacle.
Figure 3 is a bottenrplan viewot the the imclosure member or lid of the in'lproved powder rece acle, showing" novel construction thereof which will permit a powder pull to be detachably associated therewith in. the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown but the preferred mbodiment or this invention, the letter A may generally designate the improved receptacle which may include the container portion B; closure member or lid C; and putt l). H
' Thercceptacle may be constructed of any approved material, which may vary accordingtto the quality t container desired. It may be formed of carved wood, porcelain, ivory, pyroxyline, silver, or other material. The container l3 thereof may be'ot any apprr red formation, althou h it is preferred at the some he of artistic outline, proton ably including a. relatively narrow flat bottom 10, from which the concavo-convex walls 11 may extend, outwardly and up.- wardly therefrom. An inwardly depending flai'tge 1:2 may be provided, extending downwardly into thecompartment 13 provided by the main container portion B, and which defines an opening 14, the diameter otwhic'h is considerably less than the maximum diameter of the container portion B, as defined by the side walls 11 thereof. ithin the compartment 13, the powder orot'her material 16, is of course placed.
Referring to the closure member or lid C, the same is of novel construction; preferably being circular in plan view, and of less diameter than the maximum diameter of the container B. It includes the top wall portion. 20, axially ofwhich the upwardly extending finger engaging knob 21 is provided, as a means to facilitate handling of said closure member. The same includes the concavo-convex side walls 23, which extend in such relation to the top wall as to pr vide an annular seating surface 2?, intacing relation with the innor surface of the top wall '20, This closure n'tcmbcr 20 preferably provides the stantially in the same plane, and flush with the annular seating surface 25. This wall 30 is substantially crescent shaped and provides a concaved 'm'arginal edge 40, which is in facing relation with a part of the concaved inner periphery 4-1 defined by the flange'27, thus providing an opening -12. through which the puti. D may be inserted or extracted with respect to the closure member C.
The powder puff l) may be of any approved type, including the flexible body 45 of any approved material,' which is of course compressible, and may have the linger engaging knob 46 extending axially therefrom.
In the cooperation of parts, the pull D is 0ta diameter sutlicient to -permit the same the closure. member 0; In position, should the'powder puff D be provided with the engaging knob 46, the same is adapted to .lie
in abutting relation with the concaved edge 40. From the foregoing description of this invention it is obvious that a powder {re-- ceptacle has been provided, which is very compact, and. which is particularly eflicientf in that it provides structure for the reception of a powder pull, so that the same may be suspended tread the powder and only dipped into the powder as desired This structure for the support of the puff enables a person to readily insert the same into its proper compartment, with ease,
Various changes in the shape} size and arrangement of parts may be made to the form of invention herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit 7 of the invention .or the scope oft-he claims.
I claim: I v r 1. an article oi manufacture, a lid for powder boxes formed-to provide a top wall, concavo-convex side walls; annularly extending about said top walh a depending annular neck forming flange loading from the lower edge of the side wali and a crescent shaped bottom wall at the junction of l the neck find side wall and. providing a pocket intermediate the top wall and the side walls, said crescent shaped wall pro viding a concaved marginal wall in spaced relation with a part of the side waits of said lid to provide an opening into said lid. 2. As an article of manufacture, a lid for powder boxes having a top wall, an annular dependingside wall having its lower portion extending inwardly to provide a supporting ledge and terminating in a depending annular neck forming flange, and ashel'l'" at the junction of the neck and supporting ledge extending partially across the space enclosed by the neck and leaving an open space through which a passed into the lid and supported upon the ledge and shelf.
3. In. a powder receptacle, the combinapowder puii may be tion of a main container, and a hollow lid v for said container having an open depend ing neck and a supporting shelf extending inwardly from the upper end of the neck partially across the space enclosed thereby and providing a puif support, and a pufi adapted .to be passed into the hollow lid through the neck and rest upon the shelf.
4. A receptacle of the class described comprising a container open at itsupper end and having an inwardlyextcnding depending flange about the opening, a hollow lid providing a compartment therein and having a depending open. heck fitting into the opening of the container in frictional engagement with the annular flange, and a shelf partially closing the upper end of the neck whereby a puff may be passed into the compartment of the lid through the neck and rest upon the shelf.
