My invention relates to containers, but more particularly to a dispensing type of container used for holding face powder or the like.

An object of my invention is to provide a container and a removable container type cap member for such container so constructed that it will seal the contents of the container and simultaneously serve as a receptacle for a powder puff.

Another object of my invention is to provide a container for face powder or the like, wherein the cap member may be removed from the container and used separately as a powder container and a receptacle for holding a powder puff.

Another object of my invention is to provide a container for face. powder or the like that will serve as a main storage container for face powder while the cap of the container is made removable to serve in place of a powder jar and a powder puff retainer and wherein the top is provided with a restricted neck opening through which the powder puff is forced to a powder sealing position overlying the body of powder in the cap.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will appear in the course of my detailed description, to follow, of the figures of my drawing which illustrate an embodiment of my invention.

Figure 1 is an elevation view in part cross section of a container which embodies my invention.

Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the upper cap member of the container, the same being used as an auxiliary receptacle.

Figure 3 is a top view of the lower container sealing member removed and the upper container cap member partly broken away.

Figure 4 is another sectional view of the upper container cap member as bein used as an auxiliary powder jar with a powder puff being inserted into the same.

Numeral l designates the main reservoir of the illustrated powder container which follows the prior art teachings of face powder containers as to size, shape and construction.

At the top of the container I is an extended annular portion which I call the neck of the container. Extending beyond the neck 2 is a perforated spout portion 3 through which the powder is sifted. As can be seen in Figure 1, I have provided a unique method of sealing the powder container in its original packed form. Frictionally attached to the spout portion 3 of the lower container l is a temporary sealing cap 4 which may be made out of any suitable material. After the powder container has been opened, the

temporary sealing cap 4 may also be used as a cap for the lower container I while the upper container 5 constituting the cover cap is being used as a powder jar in the manner above described in one of the objects of my invention.

As can be seen in Figure 1, I have so arranged the upper container 5 that its bottom annular mouth portion 6 may be frictionally attached to the neck 2 of the lower container l without interfering with the sealing member 4 except insofar as the powder pufi 8 is pressed down on the sealing member 4. The powder puff 8 will seal the perforations of the spout 3 in the event the sealing member 4 is left off.

The upper container 5 includes a hollow bowl shaped portion 7 which serves as a receptacle for a small quantity of powder and as a retainer for the powder puff 8 which is designed to be forced through the annular mouth portion 5. When the puff 8 is forced through the annular mouth portion 6, it springs into the dotted line expanded position as shown in Figure 4. The puii 8 may likewise be pulled back out of the cap 5 as shown in Figure 2. The annular mouth portion 6 should be made large enough to permit two fingers, thumb and index finger, of the hand to be pushed through the same to grasp the handle 9 of the pufi 8.

As can be readily seen from the drawings, the upper container 5 is designed to be used separately as a powder jar. When the upper container 5 is so used, the temporary sealing cap 4 may be used as a cover member for the lower container I.

The overall diameter of the upper container 5 is slightly less than the minimum diameter of the container l. Through this type of construction the upper container 5 will be prevented from striking a surface on which the lower container I may be overturned. This protective feature permits the use of fragile, decorative materials in the making of the upper container 5.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A powder receptacle comprising an upper container and a lower container, the lower container constituting a storage reservoir adapted to contain a quantity of powder, said lower container provided with an opening for dispensin powder therefrom, a sealing member for closing the opening of said lower container, the upper container being removably supported in an inverted position by the lower container, the upper container having a volume less than the lower container and provided with a restricted mouth extension through which a powder puff of a greater diameter than said mouth is adapted to be forced to allow the same to expand and be supported in said upper container, said mouth provided with a neck sufiiciently short to bring the powder pufl held by said upper container into a sealing contact with the opening of said lower container to seal the same when said sealing member has been removed, said upper container being provided with an outer top surface made sufficiently flat to permit said container to stand in a vertical position.

2. A powder receptacle comprising a main container, a neck portion constituting a mouth for said container formed integrally with the sides thereof, a perforated, removable cap for said mouth slidably engaging the peripheral surface of said neck portion, an upper container having a restricted mouth extension adapted to slidably receive the lower mouth opening of said upper container by being slidably mounted over the neck thereof, said upper container adapted to hold a powder pufi forced into its restricted mouth .extension.

3. A powder receptacle comprising a main con-- tainer, an annularly restricted neck anda further restricted spout formed integrally with the sides thereof, a perforated, removable sealing member for said container slidably engaging said spout, an upper container having a restricted, mouth extension adapted to slidably receive the neck portion of said main container to form an outer cap therefor, said upper container having a major diameter less than the minor diameter of said main container and adapted to hold a powder pufi forced into its restricted opening whereby the upper container will not strike a surface in a manner to loosen the same if the powder receptacle as a whole is dropped.
