B. M. DAVIS SHADE BRACKET Filed April 1, 1922 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 WITNESS:
INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 5, 1924.
UNETED STATES BUBWELL M. DAVIS, OF RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA.
SHADE BRACKET.
Application filed April 1,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BURWELL M. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Raleigh, in the county of Wake and State of North Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide means for supporting a window shade roller and curtain pole, such means being capable of adjustment so as to fit different sizes of windows and hold different lengths of rollers.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for holding the device to the window frame without the use of screws and the like.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Figure 1 is a View of a window frame showing my invention in use.
The remaining figures are detail views.
In these views 1 and 2 indicate a pair of plates, each of which has one end bent rearwardly, as at 3, said end engaging the edge of the window frame, said frame being shown at 4:. The inner end'of each plate is cut and rolled, as at 5, to produce a tubular part which is screw threaded so that the two plates can be connected together by the rod 6 which has its ends provided with right and left hand screw threads for engaging the parts 5 of the plate. Thus by rotating the rod the two plates can be drawn towards each other so that the bent ends 3 will engage the edges of the window frame and thus clamp the entire device to the frame. Each of the plates has a fiat plate 7 adjustably secured thereto by means of the screws 8 passing through the elongated slot 9 in A 1922. Serial No. 543,733.
plate 7 and engaging screw threaded holes 10 in the plates 1 and 2. A substantially Ushaped clamp 11 is screwed to each plate 7 for supporting a curtain pole and each plate 7 is also cut and the cut portions are bent forwardly at right angles to provide the shade roller support 12 and the hooked part 13, the hook parts 13 being engaged by the ends of the spring 14. This spring can be used for supporting the curtain instead of the pole.
From the above it will be seen that the de vice can be clamped to a window without marring the window by screws orthe like and the device is adjustable to suit different sizes of windows and to support diflerent lengths of shade rollers.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim -is:
A device of the class described comprising a pair of plates, each having one end bent and its other end cut and rolled to provide a screw threaded socket, a rod having its ends screw threaded for engaging said sockets, a pair of flat members slotted longitudinally, screws passing through the slots and openings in the plates respectively for associating the members with the plates for horizontal adjustment thereon, a shade roller bracket formed on each member by cutting the member and bending the cut portion at right angles, a spring clamp connected with each member for supporting a curtain pole, a hook formed on each member by cutting the same and bending the cut portion at right angles and a spring engaging said hooks for supporting a curtain.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
BURWELL M. DAVIS.
