Burkey, Quarryville, Pa. Application April 17, 195a, Serial No. 349,503
1 Claim. 01. 211-1054 This invention relates to a bracket or support for shades and Venetian blinds.
An object of this invention is to provide a bracket structure which may be mounted in a window, door frame, or otheropening' without the use of screws or other fastening means.-
' Another object of this invention is to provide a shade bracket adapted to be clamped within a window frame by an adjustable clamping means, the assembly including an outer bracket for attaching a drape supporting means thereto.
In a modified form of this invention, there is disclosed a bracket structure designed for use in supporting a Venetian blind structure, including supporting means for drapes at the opposite ends of the Venetian blind.
A further object of this invention is to provide a bracket structure which is simple in construction and can be easily and quickly mounted and removed.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings-- Figure l is a detailed inner side elevation of a shade bracket constructed according to an embodiment of this invention, 7
Figure 2 is a sectional view, partly broken away, taken on the line 22 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 2,
Figure 5 is an inner side elevation of a modified form of bracket structure,
Figure 6 is a sectional view, partly broken away, taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 5,
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken on the line 77 of Figure 6,
Figure 8 is a fragmentary end elevation of one of the clamping plates.
Referring to the drawings and first to Figures 1 to 4- inclusive, the numeral 10 designates generally a window frame structure having vertical side members 11, and a top member 12. In order to provide a means whereby a shade may be supported between the side members 11 of the frame 10 without securing the shade brackets to the frame 10 by means of screws, nails or the like as is conventional, I have provided a shade supporting means which includes a pair of clamping plates 14 and 15 which are adapted to bear against the inner sides of the side members 11 adjacent the top member 12.
2 to.bite into the adjacent or confronting face of an adjacent side member 11.
Referring now to Figures 5 to 8 inclusive, there is disclosed a Venetian blind bracket structure which includes a pair of plates 37 and 38. The plates 37 and 38 are provided with outwardly projecting tangs 39 and 40 respectively, which are adapted to bite into the confronting faces of the window frame. Plate 37 has extending right angularly therefrom a flange 41, and flange 41 includes upper and lower bracing flanges 42 and 43 respectively.
A pair of elongated parallel rods 44 are secured by fastening means 45 to flange 41, and the rods 44 have fixed therebetween a spacer 46. A pair of tubular members 47 are fixed to an inwardly projecting flange 48 formed integral with plate 38, the tubular members 47 being fixed to flange 48 by means of a clamping plate 49.
In the use of the bracket structure shown in Figures 24 is then threaded-outwardly on rod-22 so that plates 14 and 15 will be tightly pressed against the-side'members 11 of the window frame with tangs- 13 and 16 biting into the side members 11. The drape supporting bracket members 29 and 33 are disposed closely ad-- jacent the inner faces of the side members 11, as shown in Figure 2.
The bracket structure shown in Figures 5 to 8 is applied to the window frame in the same manner as the. bracket structure shown in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive.
The bracket structures herein disclosed may be used for supporting shades, Venetian blinds; drapes, and any other desired material or articles in either windowor door frames, china closets or the like.
I do not mean to confine myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed, but claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A bracket structure comprising a pair of clamping plates each having drape supporting means connected therewith, tangs carried by and projecting from the outer faces of said plates, a pair of parallel tubes extending from one of said plates, a clamping member securing one. end. of, each. tube. to. said. one. of said plates, said clamping member having a flat central portion and a hook-shaped portion at each end, means securing the member to the clamping plate, a pair of parallel rods telescoped into said tubes, a second clamping member having means to connect the rods to the other of said clamping plates, a spacer bar fixed between said rods, and nuts threaded onto said rods bearing against the adjacent ends of said tubes.
