To ZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, NaoMr Rrronrn CUR- fris. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Norwalk, county of Fairfield, State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Undergarmenta of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates t-o an improvement in undergarments for women, one object thereof being` to provide a combination of drawers and petticoat which will be more particularly effective when used with certain dresses of contemporary mode. These dresses are intended to follow rather closely the contour of the body and therefore it is essential to avoid superfluous inaterial in the under garments. On the other hand there is the possibility oi simplifying the underwear to such an eXtent as to unduly disclose the body contours, particularly the buttocks. I
My improved garment affords the advantages of form fitting underwear and at the same time provides protection equivalent to that of a snug fitting petticoat.
A preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a front view,
Figure 2, a side view,
Figure 3, a rea-r view, and
Figure 4. a rear view of the garment detached and extended.
The garment illustrated in the drawings comprises a hip band l which is intended yto tit the wearer rather snugly, said band in the present case, opening at the front and having fastening means shown` in the drawincr as consisting of buttons and button` holes. Separated drawer legs 2, providing open crotch drawers are secured to the lower edge of the band l. A iiap 3 is secured along its top edge to a rear portion of said lower edge of the band l forming a seam a and a portion of each side edge of said flap .is secured to a rear portion of the respective drawer legs in such a way as to form seams 5 and 6 which are shown as somewhat converging and extending toward the lower edge of the band 1. The length of these seams will .preferably be such that their lower ends will be below the buttocks of the wearer of the garment, it being contemplated that where the lat-ter is properly fitted, the flap will be under ten- UNDERGARMENT.

sion between the seams and over t-he buttocks. From the foregoing' description, it will be clear that my improved garment combines Vcharacteristic features of several garments in such a way as to produce a result which is not obtainable by the use of said garments Yeither individually or collectively. It enables a modest woman to avail herself of the comfort of present day clothes without feeling that she is inadequately clothed.
In making a garment as above described. considerable elasticity can be secured by making th-e hip band in two pieces joined by a seam 7 at the rear and 'by cutting the material of each piece in such a ina-nner that the portion adjacent to the seam will be on the bias while the front end portion will be straight with the weave of the cloth. rlhe material of the apron or flap 3 will also preferably be cut on the bias for a similar reason.
I claim as my invention:
l. An undergarment comprising a hip engaging band, drawer legs secured to the low-er edge of said band, and a depending` fiap having a free lower edge and being secured to a rea-r portion of said lower edge and to a rearwardly disposed portion of the respective drawer legs.
2. An undergarment comprising a hip engaging band. means for securing said band on the body of a wearer, separated drawer legs secured to the lower edge ot' said band and a flap secured to a rear portion of said lower edge and to a rear por-V tion of each of said drawer legs by means of converging seams extending toward the lower edge of the band.
3. An undergarment comprising a hip engaging band of fabric in two pieces each having one end edge cut straight with the weave of the material and seam edge cut on the bias of said material.l saidpieces being oined at said seam edges.. drawer legs secured to said band, and a flap depending from said band and onsisting of a piece of material cut on the bias and having its lateral edges secured to rear portions of the legs.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 21st day of July, 1922.
NAOMI iuroninoUR'rrs.
