Description

G. F. EBEBHABD. Hama-Loops for Harness.
Patented Feb. 24.. 1874.`
E5 SES UNrrED STATES PATENT CFFICE.
GEORGE F. EBERHAR-D, OF AKRON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAME-LOOPS FOR HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,953, dated February 24, 1874 g application filed October 21, 1873.
' being had to the annexed drawing, in Which- Figure l is a side view of a hameloop and the adjustingplate having its flanges or projections, which form the staple or eye to receive the loop, straightened or separa-ted in a manner to permit of the insertion of the latter.y Fig. 2 is a corresponding View of the same, showing the flanges or projections of the adjusting-plate swaged over the loop, thus forming an eye or staple for the latter. Fig. 3 is an end View of Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a corresponding view of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the adj listing-plate, haineloop, and a portion of a lia-ine, showing the same relatively adjusted with one another for operation.
Corresponding parts in the ligures are desi gnated by like letters.
rIhis invention relates to a certain ini'prove` meut in haines; and it consists of an adjustable plate for the halne-loop, upon which an eye or staple is formed, by constructing the said plate, which should be made from some ductile and durable metal, with flanges or projections swaged over the said loop, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable others to make and use my in` rention, I will proceed to describe it.
In the annexed drawing, A refers to a haine of the usual construction, and provided in its upper portion with a series of perforations, a a.. B refers to the adjustable hame-loop plate, which should be made from sonie duetile and durable metal, and havin g two nibs, b b, which enter the perforations a a in the haine, through which and the said perforations the 'said plate is made adjustable, in order to adj ust the haines to different-sized necks of horses. This plate is supplied With a staple or eye, b b', for the reception and attachment thereto of the hameloop O, which is formed thereon by constructing the said plate with two flangesv or projec tions, as shown in the drawing, and swaging the said projections or flanges over the haineloop C. The latter of the ordinary construction.' f
Through this construction the haine-loop is united to the adjustable haine-plate, and the latter, in turn, `held to the haine or hames with the assistance of the llame strap or string. Further, the one cannot become separated from the other, avoiding the loss of time and trouble in uniting or keeping them together While being adjusted from one point to another; and, thirdly, the adjustment of one necessitates the adjustment of the other, and that simultaneously, which promotes convenience of manipulation, &c.
Having thus described my invention, What I cla-i111, and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent, is-
The adjustable plate B, having the langes b b swaged over the loop G to retain it in place upon the said plate, and the studs b b to enable it to be adjusted upon the haine, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 17th day of October, 1873, in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
GEO. F. EBERIIARD.
