Patented Nov. 27, 1923.

HILDA NEUHAUS, OI? MILFORD, IOWA.
' POST.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HILDA NEUHAUs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milford, in the county of Dickinson and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Posts, of which the following is a specification. 1
This invention relates to improvements in fence posts and has for an ob ect the provision of a light metal post which will combine strength and durability, with cheapness.
means for reinforcing and bracing the same, the construction being such that the post and its bracing'means may be securely anchoredby drivingand thus avoid the necessity of digging'holes;
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of a post constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a view at right angles to Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the same.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the rein-,.
forcing member.
Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like charactersof reference denote corresponding parts, relatively light character is preferably formed of angle iron so as to provide strength, the post shownbeing substantially L-shaped in cross section although a T or other shape may be used. The post is provided with the usual or any preferred charactor of openings or means for the attachment of line "wires and is sharpened at one end'as indicated at 11 to facilitate driving.
Detachably secured to the post by bolts or similar fastening devices 12, is a reinforcing member 13. This member is substantially triangular in shape and is provided along its altitude with spaced openings 14 for the Another object of the invention is the provision of a post which includes novel,
the post 10 which is of a passage of the bolts 12, which permits'of the reinforcing member being adjusted with respect to the depth at which the post is driven. The post of the reinforcing member is engaged with the ground, while at the juncture of this post and the hypothenuse or inclined side of the member 13 there is provided an eye 15. This eye may be formed in various ways, but it is preferred to curl or bend an extension of the reinforcing member in the manner shown.
The eye 15 is adapted for the reception of a pin 16, which may be either solid or in the form of a pipe and which is provided at one end with an offset head 17 so as to prevent the pin from passing entirely through the eye 15.
By means of the construction shown and described, the post may be driven to the desired depth, the reinforcing member attached thereto and the pin 16 driven in place, so that the reinforcing member will be securely anchored. While the reinforcing member 13 is shown in the form of a plate, it may be differently constructed.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. 'The combination with a fence post, of a reinforcing member provided with an eye spaced from the post, means for adjustably securing the member to the post, whereby the lower edge of said member may be en- HILDA NEUHAUS.
