1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in fences and more particularly to a fence post construction. 1
The principal object of the present; invention 5 is to provide a fence post involving brace means for firmly holding the post against distortion.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a fence post wherein anchoring means is provided for preventing distortion of the post while in use. 1
These and variousother important obj ects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings- Figure 1 represents a side elevational View of the post.
Figure 2 is a side elevational View of the post Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the outstanding anchor.
Figure 8 is a fragmentary detailed sectional view on the line 8--8 of Figure 1.
Figure 9 is a fragmentary side elevational view of a modified form of anchor.
Figure 10 is a section on the line Illof Figure 9.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen in Figure 1 that numeral 5 represents an angle iron posthaving openings 5 therein for receiving securing means for the fence wires 1.
The post as shown in Figure 1' is used as an ordinary fence post, but as used in Figure 2, an additional lateral anchor l iii is used for bracing the post 5 in both directions of the fence.
In this connection and as can be seen in Fig- 10 ure 1, the lower portion of the post, that is, just above the ground level is provided with a pair of bosses it between which the outstanding anchor generally referred to by numeral ii can be driven. In other words, the anchor head it 15 is provided at the outer end of this anchor which includes the stake i9 and the stake is positioned between the bosses l6 and driven downwardly so that the head enters the earth and forms an anchor for the fence post 5a and in this respect 20 what is shown in Figure 2 can be regarded as a modification or amplification of what is shown in Figure 1.
As can be seen in Figure 8, these bosses iii are in the form of short rotary sleeves arranged on' bolts 20 passing through the post and equipped with nuts 2| to prevent displacement of the bosses or sleeves I 6.
A modified form of anchor is shown in Figure 9 wherein the post is denoted by reference secured the angle iron member 22 sharpened as The stake 22 can be driven into the ground by striking the upper end thereof. The
. wing structure 24 is constructed of sheet metal,
the intermediate portion 25 of which is secured as at 26 to the overlying flange of the stake 22, while the rest of the structure is bent laterally to form the wing a-a.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the 40 {invention in specificterms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, claimed as new is:
In combination, a fence post and a stake, said post provided with a pair of horizontally disposed protuberances between which the stake is dis- 0 posed, said protuberances being adapted to guide the stake as it is driven into the ground at a definite acute angle in relation to the post, said protuberances each consisting of a member extending from the post and a rotary sleeveon the projecting member against which sleeve the stake is ridable. 1 1
