IMPROVEMENT IN BOOTEES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,564, dated February 17, 1874 application filed October 8, 1873.

In carrying out my invention, 1 construct the outer leather or quarter A of one single piece of material and fix in it a gore-opena ing, a, extending down its middle to, or nearly to, the heel, and of the shape, as shown; and, further, I insert within such gore-opening a, and sew or fasten thereto or to the edges thereof, a suitable gore, B, of an elastic or inelastic material.
In Fig. 4 the lines on the gore against which the edges of the goreopening are to be arranged while being sewed to the gore are indicated at c o.
By so constructing the quarter and applying to it a gore, I am enabled to make the bootee without any back seam at the heel, or any such seam, extending along the medial line of the back of the quarter, and thus I save all danger of such a seam rubbing or doing injury to the heel and the rear portion of the leg of the person wearing the bootee.
The lining of the quarter, when one is used, may be formed and gored like the quarter.
I claim- In a shoe or bootee the quarter A, of a single piece of material, provided with the slit a, in the back of the form shown, for the insertion of the gore B, substantially as and for the purpose described.
