Application filed December 3,1821. Serial 3010. 519,849.
T 0 (42210710772, it may concern l '1 Be it known that i, Wrrrrl ny K. More some citizen of the United locates, residing all at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stamp Fads, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to stamp pads, and more particularly to the type of pad cmbodied in the co-pending application Serial No. l60,592, filed April 11, 1921.
A purpose of my present invention is the provision of a stamp pad comprising a pad receiving container and a retention member supporting the cover for the container and arranged to embrare a flange of the container for confining the pad against accidental displacement therefrom, and the same time facilitating the application and removal of the pad and without the liability of the ink from the pad reaching the fingers of the operator.
I will describe one form of: stamp pad embodying my invention and will then point out the novel features thereof in claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view showing in top plan one form of pad embodying my invention, with a portion thereof broken away to disclose parts not otherwise revealed.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the pat in side elevation.
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the pad shown in the preceding view.
Fig. a is a rear end elevation of tl e pad showing the hinged connection in the cover.
Referring specifically to the drawings, in which similar reference characters refer to similar parts, my invention, in its present embodiment, comprises a container designat- -ed generally at C and constructed of rubber in the same manner as the container shown in my co-pending application hereinbefore' referred to, with the exception that in the present instance the container is 01". rectangular formation and is formed at its upper side with a rectangular flange 15 which co-operates with the container to provide a pocket for the reception of the inking pad P. This flange 15 is of the same width in cross section from its base to its upper edge so as to allow the ready insertion and removal of the pad into and out of the pocket.
of a rectangular strip of metal designated at'S and including a vertical portion 16and a horizontal portion 17 connected to the upper end of the vertical portion and disposed at right angles thereto. i-lingedly secured to the strip as indicated at the point 18 is a cover K also formed of metal and having a depending flange 19 which, in the closed position of the cover, is adapted to snugly embrace the strip and thereby secure the cover in closed position. I
In the applied position or" the strip S, the portion 16 embraces the outerside of the flange 15, while the portion 17 overlies the upper edge of the flange 15 and is of such a width that its inner edge projects beyondthe inner edge of the flange, as is clearly shown in Fig. 3. By this arrangement it will be seen that the projecting edge of the portion 17 engages the upper side 01" the pad 1? and thereby functions to retain the pad against displacement from the pocket.
When desiring to remove the pad, it will be clear that the strip or retention member S can be readily removed from the flange 15 thereby allowing of the easy removal of the pad and without the necessity of the operator gripping the pad with his fingers.
Although I have herein shown and described only one form of stamp pad'em bodying my invention, it is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made herein without departing from the spirit of the invention and the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In combination, a retention member adapted to engage the flange of a stamp pad container for confinin the pad within the container, and a cover for the pad supported on the member.
2. A stamp pad comprising a container, a flange formed on the container and arranged to provide a pad receiving pocket, and a retention member slidably perpendicularly on and irictionally embracing the flange and having a portion thereof projecting from the inner edge of the flange adapted to retain the pad within the pocket.
3. A stamp pad comprising container, a flange formed on the container and arranged to provide a pad receiving pocket, a retention member removably embracing the flange and having a portion thereof projecting from the inner edge of the flange adapted to retain the pad Within the pocket, and a cover hingedly supported on the member.
4. A stamp pad comprising a container having a flange of uniform cross sectional area and associated with the container to provide a pad receiving pocket, a retention member comprising a strip of metal bent to provide a vertical portion which embraces the outer side of the flange and a horizontal portion reposing on the upper edge of the flange and of such a Width that its inner edge 15 projects beyond the inner edge of the flange to provide means for retaining the pad Within the pocket, and a cover hingedly supported on the member and including a dependin flange adapted to frictionally embrace the member for retaining the cover in closed position with respect to the pocket.
5. In combination, a stamp pad container including a flange arranged to provide a pad receiving pocket, a retention memberengaging the flange and arranged to retain a pad Within the pocket, and a cover carried by the member.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this s ecification.
ITNEY K. MUNSON.
