Application filed June 23, 1922. Serial No. 570,284.
for the purpose indicated which may be readily applied to. and removed from the bottle to adapt it to be readily and safely as well as conveniently transported; and with this object in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts 01 which a preferred embodiment is .20 shown in the accom Jan in drawin s wherein 2- s Figure 1V is a view of a carrier embodying the invention applied in the operative position to abottle.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the neck band detached from the bottle.
Figure 3 is a detail view of the latch.
The device consists essentially of a neck band 10 having diametrically opposite terminaily headed studs 11 to form the means of attachment of ca when the device is appiied to a bottle such as indicated at 13 to extend over the top of the bottle at a convenient distance to permit oi the grasping thereof by the hand of the operator said bail thus being pivotally mounted upon the band and adapted to fold downwardly to a position against the side of the bottle, when not in use, to permit of pouring the contents from the bottle.
At one end of the hand there is provided rving bail 12 adapted an approximately closed eye 14: forming the means of connection therewith of a latch 15 consisting of a strip of material of substantially the width of the band which is adapted to span the interval between the extremity of the band and is provided with a series of openings 16 for selective engagement with a hook 17 at the other end or" the band from that which carries the eye A so that, as indicated in Figure l, the latch which is carried by one'end of the band is adapted to be closed and engaged withthe other end of the band to hold the latter in engaged relation with the neck of the bottle. The extremity of the latch is outwardly deflected to form a finger hold 18.
As the band is thus made adjustable to the diameter exteriorly of the neck of the bottle, below the usual bead 13 thereof it will be obvious that a substantial engagement with the bottle is afforded so that it may be safely carried through the agency of the bail l2.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is A bottle carrier having a diametrically adjustable bail carrying band forembracing the neck of a bottle, said band being split and provided at its extremities with tongues respectively forming a closed eye and a hook, and a latch having a longitudinal series of openings formed therein, one of which is engaged with said eye and the others of which are selectively engageable with said hook for varying the diametrica-l dimensions of the band to correspond with that of the bottle neck.
in testimony whereof he aiiixes his signature.
