Description
May 21, 1929. C, LAMAR I CAP FOR FLASKS OR THE LIKE Filed April 16, 1927 Patented May 21, 1929.
.FIQE.
FATE? GHARLES LAMAR, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
CAP F011 FLASKS OR THE LIKE.
Application filed April 16,
The present invention relates to flasks or bottles such as thermos bottles or the like and has for its object to provide a cap therefor which can be used both as a drinking cup or as a funnel. to facilitate the filling of the bottle.
My invention will be fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawing which forms part of this specification and in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts, Fig. 1 being an elevation of a flask equipped with my improved cap which is shown in longitudinal section; Fig. 2 a perspective view of the cap when used as a drinking cup; Fig. 3
shows the cap when used as a funnel and Fig. i a sectional View of acap of modified construction.
Referring to the drawing 10 denotes a metal flask which is provided with an externally threaded neck 10 to receive the metal cap and 11 denotes a. cork or other stopper. The metal cap 12 is provided at one end with a threaded portion 12 to screw on the threaded neck 10 of the flask and at its opposite end with an outwardly projecting hollow cylindrical extension 13 forming a nozzle of such diameter as to in the mouth of the neck 10 so that when placed over the neck in inverted position with its nozzle 13 projecting inwardly through the mouth of the neck the cap 12 will serve a funnel facilitating the filling of the flask. When it is desired to use the cap as a drinking cup the stopper 11 is used to tightly close the nozzle.
Instead of using the stopper 11 the outer end of the nozzle 13 may be provided with a lid 14 which may be hinged to a ring 15 slidahl'y mounted on said nozzle as shown in Fig. i.
When the cap is to be used as a funnel the lid 14; is swung open and moved together with the ring 15 toward the inner end of the nozzle. When the cap is to be used as a drinking cup the ring is moved toward the outer end of the nozzle to bear against 1927. Serial No. 18 2194.
the upturned edge 13 thereof permitting the lid to be swung into closed position. The lid 14 may be actuated by a spring (not shown) which tends to swing it into closed position and. may be provided with tightening means such as a. rubber or cork disk 16.
Since various other modifications may be made in the construction of my cap without departing from the principle of my invention I do not wish to restrict myself to the details described and shown.
What I claim is:
1.1 1s an article of manufacture, a capfor a flask having a threaded neck, said cap being adapted to be used interchangeably as a drinking cup and funnel, and being formed at one end with a threaded portion to screw on the threaded portion of said neck and at the opposite end with an open ended nozzle to fit in the mouth portion of said neck, and means displaceably mounted on said nozzle for closing the latter when said cap is used as drinking cup.
2. As an article of manufacture, a cap for a flask having a threaded neck and adapted to be used interchangeably as a drinking cup and funnel, said cap being formed at one end with a threaded portion to screw on the threaded portion of said neck and at the opposite end, with an open ended nozzle to fit in the mouth portion of said neck, a lid on the outer end of said nozzle and an annular member slidably mounted on said nozzle to which said lid is hinged.
3. A combined drinking cup and funnel for a flask having a threaded neck portion comprising, a cap for said flask having an enlarged cup portion, and a reduced nozzle arranged at one end of said cup portion, a. threaded portion at the open end of said enlarged cup portion for engagement with said threaded neck portion, a lid on the outer end of said nozzle and an annular ring slidably mounted on said nozzle to which said lid is hinged.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature.
CHARLES LAMAR.
