FLUID FOUNTAIN DEVICE Filed Sept. 23. 1939 AWN INVENTOR JOH Wake/51v 6/2577N0 BY 6'? MM ATTORN EY Patented June 24, 1941 UHTED STATES PATENT OFFICE FLUID FOUNTAIN DEVICE John Warren Castino, River Forest, 111. Application September 23, 1939, Serial No. 296,266
3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in fluid fountain devices, and more particularly to a novel fluid fountain device of the type adapted. to dispense and apply fluid used in the treatment of finger nail cuticle in the operation of manicuring.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type provided with a reservoir and fount of a material impervious to the action of the chemical fluid or composition to be held therein.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type so constructed as to effectually seal the reservoir and fount against leakage.
Another object of the invention is to provide sealing means in a device of the type which will also act as a cleaner of the fount bore.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. l is a View in section of a fluid fountain device embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view in perspective taken of the fount or plug and the sealing pin.
Fig. 3 is a View in section of a modified form of the invention.
In the drawing, the numeral ID represents the device generally, having an outer shell I l, with an enlarged bore at the open end at l2 thereof, terminating inwardly in a shoulder I3. An inner container or reservoir l4, formed of glass or other vitreous material, has an annular outwardly deflected rim or ferrule I5, which latter is so proportioned as to rest snugly on the shoulder l3 within the enlarged bore I2 of outer shell I I. A compression washer I6 is held between the ferrule and a plug or fount l1, the latter in the preferred form of the invention being formed of cork or a similar material not affected by the cuticle fluid to be dispensed by the device. The fount I1 is of such a size relatively to the bore I2 of the shell H, as to fit tightly therein, and has an annular flange I8, acting as a stop, both to seal the outer end of shell H, and to provide a shoulder at [9 to seat the outer cap 20. A sealing pin 2| is inserted within the bore 22 of fount I1, and has an integral ring head 23, which rests against the inside of the closed end of cap 20, when the latter is in place. The fount I1 has an oblique face 26 on its outer or applicator end 21 and it will be seen that the outer end 28 of the bore 22 is in a convenient place for the discharge of the cuticle fluid as the applicator end 21 is being used in pushing back the finger nail cuticle in the manicuring operation.
In use, the reservoir [4 is filled with the cuticle preparation or fluid, and it will be seen that with the pin 2| and cap 20 in place, the device may be conveniently carried in a handbag without the danger of leakage. When the cap and pin are removed, the oblique face 26 is applied against the top of the finger nails with a pushing movement of the end 21 against the cuticle. The fluid will pass by gravitational means to the nail surfaces and cuticle.
It Will be understood that the device is capable of 'many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus' described the invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
l. A container, a shell for said container having an enlarged bore at the open end thereof forming an annular shoulder, a ferrule on the open end of said container normally seated on said shoulder, a compression washer, and a bored fount inserted in said shell bore for holding said ferrule between the washer and said shoulder.
2. A tubular container, a tubular shell for said container having an enlarged bore at the open end thereof forming an annular shoulder, a ferrule on the open end of said container normally seated on said shoulder, a compression washer, and a bored fount inserted in said shell bore for holding said ferrule between the washer and said shoulder.
3. A container, a shell for said container having an enlarged bore at the open end thereof forming an annular shoulder, a ferrule on the open end of said container seated on said shoulder, a compression washer, a bored fount inserted in said shell bore for holding said ferrule between the washer and said shoulder, an annular flange disposed medially of said fount, a cap for the fount adapted to seat against the flange, and a pin inserted in the fount bore as a cleaner and closure therefor and held in place by the cap.
JOHN WARREN CASTING.
