Another object is to provide means whereby certain commodities, such as adhesives, and mucilages, may be dispensed- A from the container and spread about upon the surface upon which they4 are poured.
Another Objectis to provide a very simple, practicall cap for the mouth o f'a receptacle, with a self-contained spring-pressed valve for closing adischarge opening in the cap,
and to provide the cap with a flat surface4 'by means of which adhesives or mucilages may be readily spread about upon the surface upon whlch they are deposited.

threaded neck 7 at its open end, upon which neck is secured a cap or closure 8, here shown as formed wlth a. screw-threaded,
curing the cap to the bottle as is well known to those skilled in the art to `which this invention pertains. The screw-threaded pore tion 9 is formed with an annular shouldered portion 10, between which and the upper edge ofthe neck of the bottle, is interposed a washer 11, of cork or other resilient packing material, whereby a tight joint may be made between the bottle and Cap to prevent leakage around screw-threaded lconnection therebetween. From the shouldered portion 10 extends a tapering end portion 12 which is centrally aperture'd, as at 13,' for the escape of the contents and said aperture is closed by a valve 14, which has a tip 15 protruding through the aperture, which tip may be pressed upon an object to unseat the valve. The valve has a flaring skirty portion 16 which seats against the -inner edge of the apertured portion of the part 12 and closes the discharge aperture.
The valve 14 is retained on its seat by a spring support 17 which is made from a piece of spring wire bent into a ring-like base portion 18, one end of which is coiled into a spring coil 19 that terminates in an upwardly extending stem 20 that is secured to the valve 14 in any desirable manner. In the preferred form said coiled spring cal direction and the base portion 18 and coiled spring portion 19 are connected by a short piece 21 of the wire. An, annular groove 22 is formed at the shouldered portion 10 'of the cap, which groove may be formed by rolling the material outwardly to form a projeotlng annular bead, and the ring-like base portion 18 of the valve support seats in said groove and is held therein by its ownl elasticity. At the place where the short part 21 of the spring support extends from the base portion 18 to the coiled spring portion 19, the shouldered portion 10 of the ca is formed with a notch or groove 23' (see ig. Cf *o receive said short piece 21, whereby the shouldered portion of the a flat part 24 which may extend from the apertured end of the cap toa place adjacent the shoulder portion 10. Thls fiat portion 24 provides a flat surface which may be readily used to spread adhesives or other mucilage upon any surface upon which they are deposited.
In the modified form of the invention shown in Fig. 5 the spring support 17a has the ring-like base portion 18a and a stem 2()a fastened to the valve 14a. In place of the coiled spring 19 shown in the preferred form, the base portion is extended inwardly toward the middle of the -base portion, as
shown at 21a and bent upon itself in a ver- 'tical plane, to form a spring-like U-shapedv portion 19E. As in the preferred form, the ring-like base portion seats in the groove 22 in the. cap and the U-bend 19a affords sulfi-v cienttensionto yieldingly retain the valve upon its seat around the discharge aperture of the cap.
In the modiiication shown in Figs. 6 and 7 the valve is in the form of a ball 14 and is kept on its seat by the spring support,
the stem 20h of which is curled around, at its upper edge to form. a loop or ring 20c for receiving the ball. To prevent spreading of the ring 20", a cup 14 may be employed for holding the ball, and the edges of the cup may be curled around the loo or ring 20c. The cup forms a seat in which the ball may roll, and consequently,

pressed to allow the contents to escape and the tip may be rubbed along the object upon which the contents are deposited, thus initially spreading them before further spreadin them with the spreader arrangement.

The device may be used to contain `pow ders of various kinds, oLmay/be used to contain other materials, such as soap, pastes, or shaving creams, or adhesives, mucilages,
and the like. When used as an adhesive/con tainer, the bottle is inverted, the tip is pressed upon the object to which it is desired to apply the adhesive, and after a suiicient quantity has been discharged upon said object, the flat spreader portion 24 may be used to spread the adhesive over the ob- 'ect.
J More or less variation of the exact details of construction is possible without .departing from the spirit of this invention; I desire, therefore, not to limit myself to the exact form of the construction shown and deto point out all of theinvention disclosed herein.
