My invention relates .to containers of a type adapted to hold liquid or powder contents and to dispense the same in small quantities, and itis one of the objects of my invention to provide a new and improved form and arrangement of parts for accomplishing this result. vMy invention relates to the general form of device shown and described in my co-pending application Serial No. 97,253, liled` March 25, 1926, and it is shown as applied to a perfumery container (see Fig. 5) or as applied to any bottle or other container for liquid which it is desired to feed out gradually.
It is one of the objectsv of my invention to simplify the construction of theclosure means of the container so that it can be manufactured on a commercial basis with the utmostease; to which end it is one of the other independently of any resiliency of the a pad.

It is another object of vmy invention to provide for the application of my improved closure means to any ordinary bottle or similar container without any change in the container, being appliedin completeoperative form to the cork or other stopper device for the container. It is still another object of my invention to improve devices of this character in sundry details vhereinafter pointed out. The preferred means by which I have accomplished my several objects are illustrated in the accompanying drawing and are hereinafter 'specifically described. That which I believe to be `new and desire to cover by Letters Patent is set forth in the claims. f

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2,-10 indicates the neck and mout-h portion of a bottle having removably secured therein a stopper comprising a metal part 11 equipped with an adapter 12 of cork or other suitable material for securing the desired close tit in the neck 10. As will be readily understood, adapters of various size andv shape can be substituted in place of the adapter'12 for making the stopper suitable for use withl receptacles of various sizes without any change in the receptacle and with a standard part 11 in use.
The stopper member 11 is provided with a discharge opening 13 therethrough, in the upper end of which a. nipple 14 in the shape of a sleeve is removably secured by means of screw threads. A coil 15 is connected at one end with the-lower end of the discharge opening of the nipple 14, the lower end of the coil 15 beingy closed by a suitable head 16 which serves to secure in position a pin 17 which extends through the coil. The head 16 ispreferably in the form of a quantity of solder 'by which the pin 17 is vfirmly A yoke 18, preferably of sheet metal, is secured at its end portions to the nipple 14 and extendsl about the y lower end of the coil 15, with va coiled spring 19 interposed between the head 16 and the lower end of the yoke, the arrangementbeing such that the spring19 serves to hold the several plies of the coil 15 in snug contact with eachother .for forming a tight closure between the pin 17 and the inner.I face of the sleeve or nipple 14. A cap v2O is removably secured, preferably by screw threads, upon the outer end of the nipple 14 about theprojecting end of the pin 17 as is clearly shown in Fig. 1.
When it is desired to discharge from the end of the pin 17 into'contact with a pad 21 or other part upon which the contents are to be discharged, the pin 17 being moved inwardly againstV the action of the spring 19 by pressure upon the pin from the pad.
This inward movement of the pin 17 serves.

Vmaking the dispensing device inthe 'torni of a complete operative unit capable ot being removably secured by means of screw threads or otherwise in. any discharge opening, have made iteasy toad-apt the device to use with many ditl'erent ifo-rms and sizes ot container. By the provision ot the adapter 12,1 have'provided for the use oi' vthe device tor closing any ordinary bottle opening by the mere substitution et an adapter of suitable size in place ot the adapter 12.
The construction shown in Fig. 3 issubstantially the same as that above described, except that a spring 22 is substituted in place oi' the spring19, such spring being heldin `position by means ot' a nipple 23 secured by screw threads in the lower end of the stopper member 2d, such spring 22 bearing at its upper end upon a head 25 or greater dialneter than the head 16 ot the device above described. In this construction, a pin26 is provided of shorter length than the pin 1"? of the first described device, since the spring 22 is sufiiciently supportedby the nipple A nipple 27 is substituted in place ot the nipple 11i, such nipple 27 being of a rounded conformation on its upper tace rather than being of the cylindrical typetor suppprting a protecting cap asis illustrated in il 1g.' 1.

In the construction shovv'n in Fig. ,4, a metal stopper 28 is ei'iip'loyed in lieu ot the meta-l and cork stopper of the device of Fig. 1, such metal stopper '28 beingsecured by means of screw threads'in the` upper-end otA the neck of a bottle 29. While l have shown the closure coil in each instance .secured position with itsV stationary end disposed outwardly and with thel inner end of the coil movable inwardly therefrom by any inward pressure upon an operating part in the forni ot' a pin, it will be understood that I do not limit inyinven tion to this toi-in et device except so tar as certain ot the claims `are specilically so liinited, thel essential feature being that the coil shall serve normally to act as a closure and shall be distorted by pressure thereon lior permitting` the escapeot a limited quantity oi the contents ot the container. A closure member for the opening into a container, comprising in combination a nipple in the form of a sleeve removably secured in said opening, a coil mounted at one end in the opening of said sleeve, a pin secured to the opposite end of the coil and extending through the coil and through the opening in the sleeve, the several plies of the coil serving by contact With each other to close the space between the pin and the inner face of the sleeve, a yoke carried by said nipple and extending about said coil, and a spring interposed between the yoke and the coil serving normally to compress the coil for holding the several plies in operative closing position.

A closure for the filling opening into a container, comprising in combination a stopper member having a discharge opening therethrough, an adapter about said member for fitting it to said filling opening, and a coil mounted in said dischargeopening and having a plurality of plies overlying each other in progressively extended position along the axis of the coil and serving by contact ivith each other in such progres sively extended position to close said discharge opening.

A closure -for the filling opening into va container, comprising in combination a stop per member having a discharge opening therethrough, an adapter about said member for fitting it to said filling opening, and a coil of substantially cylindrical form mounted at one end in said discharge opening and having a plurality of plies serving by contact With each other along the coil toclose said discharge opening.

A closure for the filling opening into a container, comprising in combination a stopper member having a discharge opening therethrough, an adapter about said member for fitting it to said filling opening, a nipple in the form of a sleeve removably secured in said discharge opening, a spring coil secured at one end to said nipple and extending inwardly therefrom having a plurality of plies serving by contact With each other to close the opening through said sleeve, and a pin secured to the inner end of the coil and extending outwardly through the nipple for pressing the plies apart.

A closure for the filling opening into a container, comprising in combination a stopper member having a discharge opening therethrough, an adapter about said member for fitting it to said filling opening, a nipple in the form of a sleeve removably secured in said discharge opening, a spring coil secured at one end to said nipple Vand extending in- Wardly therefrom having a plurality of plies serving by contact with each other to close the opening through said sleeve, a pin secured to the inner end of the coil and extending outvvardly through the nipple for pressing the plies apart, and a coiled spring also supported from said nipple serving ncrmally to assist in pressing the pliesof' said first named spring coil into operative closing contact with each other.

A closure member for the opening into a container, comprising in combination a stopper member having an opening therethrough, a coiled spring of substantially cylindrical form'secured at one end in the opening in said stopper member and having a plurality of plies serving by contact with each other to close the opening, and a pin carried by the 'free end of said coil and extending therethrough for spreadin the several plies apart for the discharge o contents from the container. f
