Application filed June 6,
This invention relates to a guard or protecting cover to be used in connection with oil cans, to the end that an oil can may be kept clean at all times, eliminating any possibility of the person using the oil can getting his hands dirty from the can.
Another object of the :invention is to provide a device of this character which when positioned will closely engage the oil can eliminating any possibility of the can rattling within its cover.
A still further object of the invention is to prevent oil which may adhere to the spout of the can after it has been used, from running over the sldes of the protector or cover when the can is positioned on its rack after use. a
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of theinveru the shape of the body portion of the oil the same being provided with depresend of the body bosses 7 adapted can, sions ad acent to the upper 6, the depressions dehmng to contact with the body portion of the oil can over which the cover is positioned to set up a binding action between the cover and can to insure against movement of the can within the cover or protector.
Depressions indicated at 8 are formed ex- 1 teriorly of the cover adjacent to the bottom thereof, which depressions define bosses 9 tector. i
192?. seen No. 196,756;
that 'engagethe bottom of the can and act 1 within the cover or proto hold the can 'As shown by Figure 1, the upper portion of the cover extendsmwardly as at 10 where i it is provided with an opening to permit the discharge spout 11 of the coil can to extend therethrough. A protecting collar indicated at 12 extends through the opening in the inwardly extended portion 10 and is provided with depressions defining'lugs 13 to contact with the discharge spout 11 and hold the collar in position.
Atthe base of the collar is a disk 14 that fits under the inwardly extended portion 10, the base being provided with enlarge ments 15 that engage the upper surface of the threaded base 1.6 of the spout 11 to hold the disk in spaced relation with the threaded portion 16' so that oil passing between the collar 12 and spout 11, may find its way between the enlargements 15 where it may pass downwardly over the threaded member 16 and prevent it from passing from under the cover vwhen the'can is being used to eject oil therefrom.
From the foregoing it will be seenthat due to the construction shown and described, the oil which may collect at the end of the spout after the can has been used, cannot possibly find its way ontothe cover sothat the person using the oil can will be insured against dirtying his hands when using the oil can. I a In the use of the device, the oil can is merely positioned in the cover or protector, the bosses contacting with the can to hold the can against movement.
Should it be desired to refill the oil can, it is of course necessary to force the oil can from the cover and remove the threaded portion 16 and refill the can in the usual manner. i
I claim:
1. A. protector for oil cans including a body portion shaped to conform to the shape of the can positioned'therein, a collar through which the discharge spout of the can extends, means for providing a space between the collar and discharge spout to allow oil to pass underthe protector, and
means forming a part of theprotector for gripping the can to hold the'can within the )rotector.
2. A protector for oilcans including a body portion shaped to conform to the shape :of the can positioned preteetor, said protector having an inwardly extendedupper portion formed with an opening to receive the discharge spout "of the can, a collar extended through the openin and having a disk at its bottom, said di's adapted to contact with theinwa rdlyextended portion, said collar having depressions': providing enlargements,- adaptedmo eontact with ,the spout to hold the collar in spaced relation with the spout to allow oil to-pass therebetween.
3; A protector for oil .cansv including a bodyeportionv adapted to be fitted over a can,
said body portion having a removable colmeensfor. holding the can viphin the prohector.
In te timoni thati l olaim the foregoing as y o n, I
ave hereto aflixed my signature. p
