PAIL PROTECTOR Filed May-9, 1932 Z floiabrese,
INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented May 15, 1934 PAIL rao'rnc'ron I Francesco Colabresc, Albert, W. Va.
Application May 9, 1932, Serial No. 610,235
1 Claim.
This invention relates to protectors, and its general object is to provide an insulating device primarily designed to be attached to the bottom of dinner pails and the like of workmen 5 for use particularly in traveling on electric mine locomotives and the like, to protect the pail from being damaged by short circuits when accidentally placed on objects in the locomotive circuit, as generally a hole is burned in an un protected pail when the pail causes a short circuit.
A further object 01 the invention isto provide a protector for pails, that not only insulates the same to prevent short circuits as above set forth, but also protects the pail against wear and damage caused by hard knocks and the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide an insulating protector for pails, that is simple in construction, can be applied to practically all types of pails, is inexpensive to manufacture and extremely efiicient in operation and service. This invention also consists in certain other 'i eatures of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter iully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which: 1
Figure 1 is a view illustratingone form of my protector applied to a dinner pail.
Figure 2 is a similar view of a modified form. Figure 3 illustrates the application of a further modified form to a particular type of pail.
Figure 4 is a view of the form shown in Fig- 40 ure 3 applied to a pail of the usual type.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken through the grooved form per se.
Referring to the drawing in detail and particularly to Figure 1, it will be noted that this figure illustrates a pail indicated by the letter A and which is of a type generally employed by workmen, and particularly miners who generally travel on mining locomotives into and out of the mines. Considerable difliculty has been experienced by the miners with their dinner pails, as when traveling on the mine 10- comotives the pails may he accidentally placed on objects in circuit with the locomotive circuit, and thereby cause a short circuit which usually burns a hole in the bottom of the pail and ,iiange with the disk for the purpose of accomspecifically pointed therefore makes the same useless for.carrying liquid, but with my protector applied to the pail, such acasualty is impossible.
The pail A is flared outwardly adjacent its bottom and the protector for that particular type of pail includes a base 1 that is of disk formation to cover the entire bottom of the pail and formed with the base is an inwardly flared annular flange 2. a
The protector is formed from rubber or other suitable elastic insulating material and is disposed cn the bottom of the pail as shown. When so disposed, it will be obvious that the annular flange will grip the flared portion of the pail and thereby prevent casual, removal iii of the protector therefrom.. I
In Figure 2, I have illustrated another iorm of my invention that is primarily designed for a pail of the type indicated by the letter B and which is provided with a bead C and the pro it tector for this type of pail likewise includes a base disk 3 and an annular flange 4,'but it will be noted that the flange is provided with an annular recess arranged at the juncture of the modating the bead B.
In Figures 3, 4 and 5, I have illustrated further modified form 01' my invention which can be applied to practically all types of paiis and this form includes a base disk 5 and an. annular flange 6 formed therewith. The flange 6 has arranged in its interior surface a plurality of superimposed aligned annular grooves 7 which as shown in Figure 3 are adapted to receive a plurality of like arranged ribs 8 which are formed about the circumference of the body of the pail D adjacent its lower end, and as the grooves and ribs are square in cross section and fit each other, it will be obvious that it is practically impossible to remove the protector as shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5 after it has been applied to the pail, with the result casual removal is positively prevented. In Figure 4, I have illustrated the grooved form of my protector secured to a pail indi cated by the letter E, having a true vertical wall, and when applied to such a pail, the annular grooves act in the capacity as suction means in that they set up a gripping action to prevent the removal of. the protector as will be apparent.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawing, it will be obvious that I have provided a protector for dinner pails or the like which will protect the bottom thereof irom bethat the advantages and novel features of myv invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a protecting device for a pail, a plurality of superimposed aligned annular ribs formed with said pail upon the outer side and adjacent the bottom thereof, an elastic insulating means including a base disk engageable with the bottom of said pail, an annular flange formed with the outer edge of the base disk and rising therefrom, said flange being provided with a plurality of annular grooves arranged to receive the ribs, and said ribs and grooves being square in cross section and of a size to fit each other to prevent casual removal of the protector from the pail.
