This invention relates to bottle holders and more particularly to a bottle holder with which is incorporated a finger rest whereby the article may be used in connection with a bottle of nail polish.

The present device takes the form of a bottle holder having an integral finger support or rest so that nail polish may be comfortably and conveniently applied to a finger nail. Articles of this general type have been known but the device of the instant invention provides further distinct advantages which render it much more desirable and practical than heretofore known constructions. Thus, the article of the instant invention comprises improved bottle gripping means so that the assembly of the bottle and holder is extremely facilitated, the bottle merely snapping into position by the application of pressure and without requiring any other action in assembling the combination.

The invention further provides a nail polish bottle holder which resists accidental tipping and forms an extremely sturdy structurenotwithstanding its simplicity of construction. Thus, a lower platform is provided for resiliently engaging the bottle and a further platform is disposed laterally thereof so as to sustain the pressure of the finger and prevent tipping of the bottle or of the entire device while in use.

The invention will be further understood from the following description and drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the combined bottle holder and a nail polish bottle, said figure illustrating the usage of the device;

Figure 2 is a front elevational view thereof;

Figure 3 is atop plan view of the device;

Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view as taken along the line 4-4 of Figure 1;

Figure 7 is a fragmentary view illustrating a modified embodiment.

Referring to the principal embodiment illustrated in Figures 1 to 6, the device is shown as being substantially a one-piece molded structure, for example, of resilient plastic material or the like. It comprises a main, for ward platform 10 which is annular in form and is provided at its periphery with a forward, vertical split 11. Platform 10 is designed to resiliently engage the beaded base 12 of the nail polish bottle 13. In accordance therewith, the platform 10 is annularly undercut so as to form an upper lip 14 and whereby the central opening of the annular platform 10 is smaller at its entrance, or on its upper surface than the succeeding portion thereof toward its lower surface. Accordingly, the bottle 13 may be inserted into the platform 10 by simply pressing it downwardly on the upper surface opening of platform 10. The head 12 will furnish a camming effect and the effective diameter of the platform 10 will expand radially by virtue of the split 11. The head 12 may then ice settle under the lip 14 within the larger, bottom portion of the central opening of platform 10.

10 and 15 are substantially circular and tangentially connected in the same horizontal plane, the diameter of platform 15 being considerably less than that of platform 10 and having no opening there-through.

Supported on platform 15 as by being adhesively secured thereto, although it may be integral therewith, is the finger support in the form of arm 16. Arm 16 is substantially vertical and upright and comprises a wall 17 which is inclined at the top thereof slightly in the direction of the bottle holding platform 10 for purposes of stability as will be noted hereinafter. Form-ed perpendicularly from the rear longitudinal center of wall 11 is a stabilizing or strengthening web 18. Integral with both wall 17 and web 18, at the base thereof, is a floor 19 which is secured to the platform 15 as above set forth.

At the top of support 16 is formed a concave-convex platform or rest 20, extending horizontally in a direction opposite to, or away from the forward platform 10'and designed to support a finger of the user in proximity'to the nail polish bottle and to facilitate the application of the nail polish to the finger nail.

A base sheet is provided for the device in the form of sheet 21 which may be of felt or other fabric so as to avoid marring surfaces. Base 21 may be of plastic material if desired, and in either event, the base is secured to the underside of

10 and 15.

It is thought that the use of the article will be apparent from the foregoing description. Briefly, the bottle holder and nail polish bottle will be generally provided as a single unit although, of course, these elements may be separately acquired, in which case the user will snap-fit the bottle into the platform opening so as to lock it there. The cap of the bottle having been removed, the brush thereof may be applied in a conventional manner to the finger nail after the finger has been placed on the platform 20 as illustrated. The structure of the instant device is such that the platform 15, which is directly under the finger rest 20, will sustain the pressure of the finger and will inhibit rearward tipping of the article including the bottle. The inclination of the wall 17 is also of utility in this respect inasmuch as the force is directed away from the bottle, thus further tending to balance the article.

In Figure 6 is disclosed a modified embodiment wherein a front platform 22 is substantially of the same struc ture as platform 10. However, the central opening does not extend completely therethrough but, on the contrary, a floor 23 is provided which is integral with platform 22 and which assumes somewhat the same function as base 21 save that platform 22 and its floor 23 will generally be of plastic as will, of course, the rear platform which supports the arm 16. Of course, an additional felt base may be secured to the underside thereof. Further, platform 22 does not have a split such as split 11 but is continuous and solid. It has been found that the split may be eliminated when the platform is formed of a resilient, relatively soft plastic such as polyethelene, in which case, the head 12 will enter and be engaged by the top opening of platform 22 by somewhat distorting said top opening, Whether in the process of inserting the bottle therein or by manually flexing the platform prior to insertion of the bottle.

In the use of either type platform, the assembly of the bottle with the holder is extremely simple, it being merely necessary to push the bottle base into the platform opening, the head 12 serving somewhat as a cam edge and further insuring retention of the bottle within the undercut. Accordingly, from a manufacturers viewpoint, the assembly-process is both simple and in'expensrve.
