UNITED, STATES PATENT OFFIG'E.
I CORNELIUS A. PRICE, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN RUBBER MATS FOR PITCHERS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,8 15, dated December 23, 18,73; application filed September 27, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CORNELIUS A. PRICE, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Rubber Mat for Pitchers and Tumblers, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a top view of my improved mat. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line a: m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved rubber mat for an ice-pitcher and tumblers to stand upon, and which shall be so constructed as to catch and hold the drip from said pitcher and tumblers. The invention consists in a tumbler attachment for rubber pitcher-mats, formed upon one or more sides of said mats to receive the tumblers, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the part of the mat upon which the pitcher is to stand, and which I prefer to make circular in form. B is the part of the mat upon which the tumblers are to stand, which is made in the form of a side attachment or part, of such a width that the tumblers may stand upon it, and which extends partially or wholly around said pitcher-mat A, and may be 0011- tinuons or upon different sides of said mat A.
The lower surface of the mat A B is made flat and smooth, so as to rest firmly upon the table. The upper surface of the two parts AB is ribbed with cross-ribs, which are made of such a height as to form deep square or diamond-shaped depressions over the entire surface of said parts, to receive the drip. The surface of the two parts A B is separated by a rib, C, which is a continuation of the outer edge of the said part A, and which rises above the surface of said parts, as shown in Fig. 2, so as to prevent the pitcher from being pushed upon the part B and against the tumblers.
The parts A B may be made rectangular, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As an article of manufacture, a rubber mat for pitchers, 850., formed of the parts A and B, separated by a semicircular raised rib, C, as shown and described.
CORNELIUS A. PRICE.
