SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 301,977, dated July 15, 1884.

I! all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN A. FRENCH, of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement ,in Measures, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on line 2 2, Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on line 3 3, Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a view of the blank before being bent.
My invention relates to a measure to be used for either dry or liquid purposes; and my invention consists in a measure whose body and handle are constructed of veneer, as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the 20 claims.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of the measure, B, the bottom, and G, a handle. The body is made of a multiple or plurality of veneers, the layers being prefer- 2 5 ably secured together either by means of some suitable adhesive material, or otherwise, and their grains preferably being crossed. The bottom Bis preferably solid, and secured to the body by tacks or otherwise; but it also may be made of veneers. The handle is formed in one piece with the body, as represented in Figs. 2 and 4.
A measure made ofthis material is light, cheap, and durable.
I claim as my invention 1. A measure body and handle blank formed in one piece of veneer.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a measure consisting of a body and handle formed in one piece of veneer, and a suitable bottom secured thereto.
3. A measure the body and handle of which are formed in one piece and consist of a multiple or plurality of veneers, formed and secured together as specified.
