DISPLAY CARD.
Application filed June 22,
T all/whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES B, KELLoGG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in thecounty of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Cards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to display cards or easels,`designed for use for advertising purposes, and more particularly to that type of display card which may be cut out'ofa single piece of cardboard or other suitable material, and which when folded and assembled as designed, will stand in a vertical position without the aid of separate brace pieces or the like.
The device is particularly designed for the display and advertisement of articles of food, and to that end one of the objects ofthe invention is to produce a display card which will simulate a table, with two or more persons in juxtaposition thereto', upon which table articles of food may bephysically placed. y Y
The invention consists in the novel device herein illustrated, described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a device embodying one form of my invention, fully assembled and standing in an upright position.
y Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank, laid flat, from which the card shown in perspective im Fig. 1 is formed.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of a modified form.
In the drawings (referring particularly to Fig. 2) A represents a sheet, preferably of cardboard, having a straight margin a constitutin the base of the devicewhen assembled. table top B and front support C therefor are formed by cutting along -the lines c, 0, c', c', scoring along the lines c2, c2, and cutting along the lines c3, c3, c4, c, continuing into the lines b, b, of the table topfD B. The support C will maintain a verticalposition and by means of scoring along the line b the table top B is made to assume a horizontal position.
Joined to the table support C and adapted 1922. VSerial No. 570,208.
to be bent back at right. anglesv thereto, by means of the scored lines c2, o2, are two side pieces D, D, the top margins d, d, of which separated therefrom by the scored lines d',
d', are members E, E, which are to be'given such shape and decoration as the particular use. ofthe devlce as a whole may require; for
example, to simulate a pair of chairs with a person seated upon each. These members E, E, are formed by cutting elongated slots, e, e, the lower margins thereof bein a continuation of the top margins d, d, of the side portions D, D. The outlines of the figures e and of the chairs e? of the members E, E, are then cut in any design or contour desired.v It will be. understood that by bending the device along the lines d,d, the sections E, E, will rest upon the base a at right angles to the sections D, D, and parallel to the front support C. It will also be noted that by cutting the slots e, e, as described, lugs e3, e3,are formed on that part of the sections E constituting the figures, which lugs are adapted to cooperate with slots b2, b2, cut in the table top B. The
insertion of the lugs e3 in the slots b2 serves to hold the side members D in proper position at right angles to the front support C.
The eXtreme outer sections F, F, are adapted t0 be bent backwardly by bending along the scoredlines'e, so as to stand at substantially right angles to the members E when the device is assembled; and thus the sections F, F, act as braces for the side members E, E. I
Gr represents a back member having a lower margin g, side margins g', g', and a top margin g2. The side margins have lugs g3', which are designed to enter slots f, f, in the brace sections F, F, to lock these members togtet'her. This member G is designed to be ent upwardly,`along the scored line g, into a vertical angles to the table top and 'it may be decorated in any suitable manner, as for example, athird person seated at the table B or a servant presenting a dish or article of food.
Referring now to Fig. 3, it will be seen that the various sections are identical with position, at right shipping.
those shown and described with reference to F ig. 2, excepting that; the rear section G has been left out, and in place thereof is shown a member H, which is bent down- Wardly alongV the scored line z. The lues h", L, on the side margins of this member are adapted to be inserted in the slots f, f, of the members l, F.
ln this modiiied form, it vvill be understood, only tivo persons Will be represented as sitting at table, and the member l-l is merely designed to assist in holdingthe parts in assembled relation.
lt -Will be understood that, as shown in F ig. 2, and in the perspective view, Fig. l, the servant may be shown as placing upon the table the article it is desired to advertise, by merely painting, printing or other- Wise upon the display card, but manifestly actual exhibits may be placedtupon the table top B for 4display purposes.
The device is attractive, and as heretofore stated is so arranged that it may be cut from a single piece of heavy paper or cardboard, which permits it to .be laid flat in Another advantage is the climi,- nation of separate parts, aps 'or braces which are usually required to be glued to the device, and Which not only become separated therefrom in use, but do not constitute the firm, unitary structure produced by means of my invention. i
It is especially to be noted that the table top B is firmly and securely .locked in position and supported, and moreover is of such size as to receive and support physically a specimen of the article which the display card is being usedto advertise.
It Will be obvious, referring to that form shown in Fig. 3, that the members F, F, and the rear sectionH -maybe dispensed with, and a brace member such as indicated in dotted' lines, may be used to assist in. supporting the table top B.
I claim as my invention:
