The platform 16' may be provided with any advertising matter'and is designed as a shelf or support for articles to bev displayed and may therefore be provided with any of the usual devices for holding articles thereto, if the platform is to be held in any position other than horizontal.

Referring to Fig. 2, it will be seen that the back 1 is provided with a plurality of ears 19 defined by incisions 20, these ears 19 being preferably arranged in horizontal lines which are substantially in alinement with the lines of scoring 12. These ears 19 are approximately the same height as the Width of the lip 18 formed on each of the platforms 16.

When it is desired to assemble the display stand each platform 16 will be bent downwardly and backwardly into the stand structurei along the line of scoring 12, the lip 1'8 having previously been bent substantially at vright angles to the plane of the platform 16 along the line of scoring 17. The platforms 16 are then pressed down until they are substantially horizontal as seen in Fig. 2 at which time the lips 18 will engage the ears 19 which ears 19 are bent away from the back suiliciently `to engage the lips 18 frictionally. The ears 19 are stiff enough to resist bending down under any ordinary weight which maybe placed upon the platforms 16.A When cardboard or similar material is used for the manufacture of this display stand, there will be a natural tendency for the platforms 16 to spring upwardly and thus disengage the lips `18'frorn the ears 19 despite their frictional engagement. Therefore, it will be seen that when such a material as cardboard or pasteboard is used the weight of the articles to be displayed is effective in holding the lips-engaged with the ears 19.

The vertical section shown in Fig. 4 illustrates a modified form of the invention, the modification consisting in placing the ears in lines above the lanes in which the corresponding lines o scoring 12 lie, this construction vmaldng it'possible for the topof the platform 16 to be seen so that.advertis ing matter carried thereon will be more effective. Also if the articles to be displayed havefprinted upon the tops thereof advertisin ('i'islplay this modified form of the invention be found effective for the purpose.

By referring to Fig. 3, it will be seen that there is no material whatsoever .wasted in the cutting of that portion of the card which forms the front of the display stand. Each ear 19 also is defined by a single incision so that no material whatsoever is wasted in the back. Thedisplay stand can be made from the blanks which are cut for making cardboard or pasteboard boxes of the same size.

I claim:

1. The herein described display stand comprising a back, top, front, and bottom, the latter attached to the back, sides connected with the edges of said front, and flaps along the free edges of the sides and the ends of the top and bottom;'said back having incisions producing upstanding ears, and said front having incisions produce ing platforms adapted to be bent back into shelves, each platform having a line of scoring near its free edge producing a lip adapted to engage the corresponding-ear.
