Among the several objects of the invention maybe noted'the provision'of a simple and inexpensive-device fondisplaying a picture orsuitable legends or the like, together with an article of merchandise and the provision of a strikingly attractive device of this type which can be made from a single blank and shipped fiat. Other objects will be in part obviousandjin part pointed out hereinafter.

The invention accordingly comprises the features of construction,combinations of elements and arrangemen-ts of parts, which are exemplified in the descriptionhereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the scopeof the application of which willbe, indicated in l the following claims. Referring-now more particularly to Figs. 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawings, there isillustrated at 1a device formed of a single sheet of suitable material such as patent coated-solid manila. For a size such as 8. 18" inches, a thickness of 25 points is suitable.

The device may take a variety of forms. In Figs. 1' to 4, the middle portion or central part2 of the device carries a suitable legend or picture. and the same is true of the end portions 8, 15 andthe intermediate portions or adjacentparts 13, 14. The centralan'd intermediate portions 2, 13, 14 are out put 1n such a way as to providea platform-portion 25 which remains united to the display along the score line '27, but is otherwiselcut away from the main body of the display. The

recesses 29, 31 are provided in-lthe platform section 25, to engage the intermediate por tions 14, 13 respectively when the deviceis bent into display position. The platform device is so shaped with respect to the intermediate portions 13, 14, that when the platform section 25 is bent rearwardly int-o display position, the lower left and right portions 33, 35 of the-platform section rests uponthe edges 37, 39 of the cut out portion ofthe intermediate sections 14, 13 respec tively. This forms a secure support for" the platform portion and for the article" or articles of merchandise (represented conventionally at 41) thereon. The recesse's '29, 31 are at such anang-le and depth andwidth that when the device is in display position, the walls 47, 49 of the intermediate sections 14, 13 enter the respective recesses 29, 31, and the front edge 51, 53 of respective recesses fit snugly against the adjacent (front) surface of the intermediate section 14, 13, as indicated in Fig, 4. This renders the device sightly and attractive in appearance, and ensures stabilit for the device as a whole and for the platform in particular. 4

The lower portions 33,, 35 of theplatform device extend out into the respective interupper part of the" central portion'2, and forv I wardly of the intermediate sections 14,13, thereby giving'to the article41 a striking prominence.

The platform section 25 is adapted to carry an article of merchandise such as 41. The parts 8, 15,'which areon the outside of the outer score lines, 9, 12 are in approximately vertical positionand substantially in alignment with each other when the device is set up for display. The parts 13, 14 which are on the outside of the inner score lines 10, 11 form an angle with the center part 2 and the outer parts 8, 15 and form the connecting links between theouter parts 8, 15 and the center part2. f

It will be seen that no extraneous supports are required, and no gluing or expensive folding is required, either; inmanufacture or installation of the article.

By having the sides of the article disposed to the rear of the central portion, the central portion appears to stand out from the rest and to present a striking appearance, and the article of merchandise 41 is, displayed ina prominent position.

The device is stable without the end sections8, 15. These end sections may be dispensed with, if desired.

In Figs. 5 to 8 is shown a modified form, wherein the platform section 25 is of somewhat diiferent shape. This is done partly to accommodate the aperture in the central portion 2 of the contour of the article. 41

, It will be seen from the above, and from Figs. 5 to 8, that the flat scction'or platform portion 25 has a contour where cut from the central part or middle portion 2- adapted to leave a re-entrant outline in said central part 2, said outline being adapted to fit an article supported on said fiat section along a contour line shaped substantially as, and representing the line, of intersection between the plane of the central part 2 with. the object 41 being supported. This presents anideal optical effect and at the same time makes a stiff and stable structure, not easilytipped over and from which the device being displayed cannot be readily knocked off.

The articles of both types herein. illustrated may be shipped flat, and may be present invention, it is intended that the above description and accompanying drawings and claims shall beinterpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

I claim: g

1. The advertising device comprising a one-piece body having a plurality of score lines extending from top to bottom offthe device and dividing the article into a plurality of parts, said score lines being formed so as to form a central part inclined rearwardly when in display position with angularly arranged adjacent parts; a supporting section cut from said central part and'the adjacent parts, adapted to fold rearwardlv on the central part and being of such length as to reach to and rest on thesurface which supports' said adjacent parts; notches in said flat section adapted to engage the adjacent parts at the openings left where the portions of the fiat section were cut therefrom, said flat section having a re-entrant contour where cut from the central part adapted to leave an outline in the central part adapted to fit an article supported on said flat section along a contour line shaped as, and representing the line of intersection between the plane of the central part withthe object being supported.

2. An advertising device comprising a central part and adjacent parts hinged thereto in a manner such as to causethe central part to be inclined rearwardly when in display position; a section cut from said central part and said adjacent parts, adapted to fold rearwardly on the central part; and notches in said flat section adapted to direct- 1y engage the said adjacent parts at the 5 openings left where the portions of the fiat section were cut therefrom, said last-named section being of such length as to reach to and rest on the surface which supports said adjacent part, in order to increasestability.
