Description
lA. H. REID.
Curry-Combs.
vN0. 145,242. Patented Dec2,1873.
n @i N' @0C UNITED STATES PATENT vOFFICE.
ALBAN H. REID, or EEANDYWINE MANOR, PENNSYLVANIA.
f IMPROVEMENT IN CURRV-COMBS.
Speeicaiion forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,242, datedDecember 2, 1873; application filed July 12, 1873.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, ALBAN H. REID, of Brandywine Manor, Chester county, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Curry-Comb, of
which the` following is a specification:
The object'of 1n y invention is a cheap, stron g, and durable curry-comb and horse-rubber, composed of a series of wires, bent and twisted together in the manner plainly shown in the perspective View, Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawing, so as to form transverse rubbers a, a frame, b, and a tang, d, adapted to a Wooden or other handle, f, as best observed in the setional View, Fig. 2.
Four stout wires, zr, :101, x2, and x3, are used in the present instance, the outermost portion ofthe comb, at the point where least strength is needed, consisting of the single wire m, which .is bent as shown, so as to form a transverse rubber, a, and a portion of the frame, b, the next section of the latter consisting of the two wires w and .r1 twisted together, While the next section is composed of three twisted wires, and the last section 0f four, the frame gradually increasing in thickness and strength as the tang is approached, which is composed of the opposite ends of the whole number of wires twisted together, and 'driven or screwed into or otherwise secured to a handle, f, as shown.
A curry comb thus constructed is cheap, strong', durable, and cleanly, and will ei'ectually loosen and remove particles of dirt without dragging out the hair or scratching and annoying the animal upon which it is used.
lf desired, the wires of which the comb is composed may be of square or triangular sectional form, instead of round.
I claim as my invention- A curry-comb composed of a series of wires bent and twisted together, substantially in the manner described, so as to form transverse rubbers af, a frame b, and a tang, d, adapted to a wooden or other handle, j'.
In testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBAN H. REID. Witnesses: l
