Description

UNITED STATES PATENT BENJAMIN F. VILLIAMS, OF FEDERALSBURG, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURRV-COMBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 51,552, dated J une 2, 1874; application filed April 25, 1874.
To all whom -it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. WILLIAMS, of Federalsburg, in the county of Dorchester and State of IiIa-ryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Horse-Combs, of which the following is a speciiication:
The object of this invention is to furnish a cheap, durable, and convenient comb for cleaning` horses, having a comb for the mane combined therewith; and it consists of a metallic frame, (preferably ot' malleable castiron,) to which are attached wire teeth for both hair and mane.
In the accompanying drawing, I `igure 1 is a perspective view of the comb. Fig. 2 is an edge View. l
Similar letters Aof reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the frame, ot' any desired or convenient form, (preferably sqnare,) haring a central supportingbar, B.` C is the shank, to which the handle D is attached in the usual manner. To one side of this frame the hair teeth E are attached. rI hese teeth are formed by bending in serpentine forno pieces of Wire, which are attached to the sides F of the frame by means of holes in the latter, and turning over the ends, as represented in the drawing, for fastening them. Four (more or less) of these corrugated wires may thus be attached to the frame, each forming five (more or less) teeth.' H is the inane-comb, formed of one or more pieces of Wire attached to the sides ot' the frame in the same or similar manner to the other wires. The wire for this conib is doubled at intervals, each tooth I being formed of two wires, which are perpendicular to the top of the frame, and on the opposite side from the other teeth. These teeth are long, so as to penetrate the mane. By this construction no sharp angles or sharp points are formed to catch or break the hair or irritate the skin. The comb works easilyY through the mane and hair, and is most et'- 'ectual in removing the dust and cleansing the skin.
Having thus described .my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl A horse-comb, constructed as shown and described-that is, consisting of the i'ranic A, shank C, handle I), short wire teeth E, and lon Wire mane-teeth I, arranged substantially as shown'and specified.
BENJAMIN F. VILLIAMS.
I Vit-ncsses:
J. S. MORGAN, WV. E. MEDFORD.
