Description
A. G. BUFURD.
Cotton-Bale Ties..
N0, 144,502, Patented Nov. 114,1-873.
UNITED STATES.
PATENT OFFICE;
ALBERT G. BUFORD, OF WATER VALLEY, MISSISSIPPI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO ANDREW J. MOGONNIOO H. L. DUNCAN, OF if SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-BAL'E TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,502, dated November 11, 1873; application filed September 27, 1873.
To all Awhom t may concern Be it know that I, ALBERT GALLATIN BU- FORD, of Water Valley, in the county of Yalabusha and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Cotton-B ale Ties; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon. y
Figure l of the drawing is a representation `of a perspective view of my cotton-bale tie.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same.
This invention has relation to forming a cotton-bale tie by means of which the ends of a bale-band can be securely fastened and readily disconnected without injury to the tie or the cale-band, as will be hereinafter explained.
The following is a description of my improvement:
-In the annexed drawings, A A represent two tapered side bars, which are connected at one end by a cross-bar, B', and at the middle of Tneir length by a cross-bar, B. Near the opnosite and largest ends of the bars A A holes are made through them, adapted to receive a removable wedge-shaped cross-bar, C.
The tie thus constructed may be made very strong and cheap of cast metal, although, if desired, wrought metal may be used in its manufacture; or, the frame A A B B may be cast, and the removable cross-bar made of wrought-iron.
D D represent the'ends of the bale-band, which are looped, as shown in Fig. 2. One of these looped ends may be permanently fastened to the frame-bar. B', but the loop which receives through it the bar C is detached from the frame by removing this bar.v
It will thus be seen with what great facility the bands can be fastened around the bale, or unfastened and removed from it.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
' The cotton-bale tie consisting of the sidetapered bars A A, cross-bars B B', and the removablewedge-shapedcross-barO,constructed substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT GALLATIN BUFORD.
