Description
Patented Feb. 13, 1923.
MANUFACTURE OF ADHESIVE METALLIC POWDER IN THE FORM OE METALLIC SCALES.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that YOTARO F UJITA, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at city of Kyoto, Japan, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Manufacture of Adhesive Metallic Powder in the Form of Metallic Scales; and he does hereby declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates tothe manufacture of adhesive metallic powder in the form of metallic scales to be used for applying, in scattered manner, to the surface of cloth or paper in order to make any required design thereon.
To make a design with metallic vpowder formed of metallic scales by applying the same to the surface of cloth or paper in scattered manner, heretofore the powder was either scattered in any convenient way on the surface of a cloth or paper on which an adhesive paste had been applied, or was homogeneously mixed with liquid-paste and painted on the surface. But according to my invention the metallic scales forming the powder are coated on one surface with an adhethe others to that of the lower one, thus the' same but opposite, or symmetrical, design by the scattered scales may be obtained simultaneously on the two sheets.
The new powder in the form of metallic scales may be manufactured as follows:
Application filed April 28, 1922. Serial No. 557,181.
' A large metallic leaf is flatly placed, either temporarily coated with paraflin or not, upon a sheet of strong paper, and fine powder of an agent, which easily melts by heat, such as lac or gum, is evenly put all over the surface ofthe leaf. When the leaf together with the sheet of paper is heated, the powdered agent will melt and cover the whole .surface of the leaf as an adhering coatin'g.
Then it is cooled down, and the paper heneath the leaf is taken off.
The leaf thus obtained is coated with a film of the agent on one side, the other side being left uncovered. By grinding this leaf in a well known manner into powder of a required grade, metallic scales, one side of which are equipped with a film of the adhesive agent, are finally obtained.
What I claim is 1. A process for preparing an adhesive metallic powder in the form of metallic scales comprising putting fine powder of'an adhesive agent, which melts by heat, upon a large leaf of metal, heating the leaf so as to melt the powdered agent and form a coating thereof upon the leaf, and grinding the leaf into powder of a required grade. 7
2. A process for preparing an adhesive powder in the form of metallic scales comprising placing a large metallic leaf on a strong paper, putting fine powder of an agent, which easily melts by heat, upon the leaf, heating the same so as to melt the powdered agent and form a coating of the agent thereon, taking off the paper, and grinding the leaf into powder of'a required grade.
3. As a new product, adhesive 'metallic scales, one surface of which is coated with i: film of an adhesive agent, which melts by In testimony whereof I hereunto afiixmy signature.
