Application filed March 25, 1922. $eria1 No. 548326.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we, HENRY F. lnivicnn, a citizen of the United Statesgand ALDRIIO GAUnnnAU, a subject of? the King oi. Great Britain, residing at Plainfielchin the county of lVindham and titate of Connecticut. have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Check Springs for Looms; and we do hereby declarethe following to be a full, such. as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. j
The invention has for its object to prolong the life of pickers and picker sticks by keeping them straight in the middle oi? the lay to prevent injury to the filling by obviating the usual knocking-off and cutting of the san'ie, to prevent throwing out of the shuttle and a hanging thereof and finallyto prevent waste oi: material and insure a saving of laborand the production ol more anda better grade of goods;
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves asthe nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodi inept oi. the invention it is to be i'inderstood that in. adapting the same to meet ditlerent conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention. Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part oi the application.
Figure l. is a side elevation of a check spring embodyii 3 the invention. showing the same applied,
Figure 9 is ijienti V -orizontal sertioi'i 4o thereof on the line Z-.1 of Fig .re 1, and.
l igurefi detail section onfthe line33 of Figure 1,, looking to the right indicated by" the arrows. j
Corresponding and iikcparts are referred to in the following descriptions and desig nated in theseveral views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The device comprises complcnienta]. strips 1 and 2, preferably of wood. The strips 1 and 2 are connected by a substantially U- shaped frame 3 of spring material, whereby the strips are adapted to yield laterally. The thshaped spring frame 3 is preferably clear, and exact description oi the invention.
constructed ofa strip of spring metal which is doubled upon itself. Bolts, 4 and 5 or analogous fastening means connect the strips of the bolts or fastenings 4. The spring plates 6 are free throughout the remainder oftheir length and are adjusted laterally by means of set screws 7 mounted in 'the'strips 1 and 2 and in the side members of the spring frame 3. The set screws 7 are secured 1n the adjusted posltlon by means of jam nuts 8.
Packing 9 is applied to the inner opposing 'Faces of the spring plates 6 and packing 1.0 is applied to the inner side of the closed end or bridge of the spring frame This packing may be of any suitable material and preferably consists of stout leather so as to resist .wear and obviate noise. One of the strips. asQ. and the corresponding side member oi. the spring frame 8, are cut away as indicated at 1.1, to provide clearance for the bolt 12 which connects the back oi the box to the lay '13 ot the loom. The distance between the side members oi: the check may be rcgula ted to suit difi'ercnt sizes oi? pickers and picker sticks.
W hat is claimed is:
1. A. check for picker sticks consisting of a frame having side arms, strips disposed against the inner surfaces of said side arms, spring plates to he engaged by the picker stick, s id spring plates being arranged longitu...inally of and intermediate the strips. fastenin passing through said side arnis. and plates adjacent one end of the plates. the opposite ends of the plates being free, and adjustable means passing through the side arms and strips adapted to abut the plate to tension. and position them.
2. A check for picker sticks consisting of a frame having side arms and a bridge con" necting them, strips disposed. against the inner surfaces of said sidear ing short of the bridge, spring plates to be engaged by the picker stick, said spring plates being arranged longitudinally of and intermediate the strips, bolts passing through said side arms, strips and plates adjacfl ii one end of the plates, packing d1ss and terminatposed against said spring plates and through which said bolts also pass, the opposite ends of the plates being free, bolts adjustable through the side arms and strips adapted toebut the plates to tension and position them, and packing disposed against the inner surface of the bridge and beyond said spl-lng plates.
