Description
A. R. JOHNSON.
STRAP HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 1, 1921.
1,394,906; I Patented Oct. 25, 1921.
ALFRED R. JOHNSON, OF REEDSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
STRAP-HOLDER.
Application filed June 1, 1921.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALFRED R. J oHNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reedsville, in the county of Mifliin and State of Pennsylvania. have invented a new and useful Strap-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to looms, and more particularly to a novel means for attaching the sweep stick to the picker stick of a loom.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will permit of adjustment of the power stick with respect to the picker stick, thereby adapting the connection for use with picker sticks of various constructions.
A further object of the invention is the provision of novel means for securing the connecting strap which connects the sweep stick and picker stick, to eliminate any pos sibility of the sweep stick becoming discon nected.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings Figure l is a side elevational view of a picker stick showing a connection constructed in accordance with the present invention as applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view of the same and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the picker stick, to which the invention is applied is indicated by the reference character 5, the same being of the usual construction, and provided with an opening extending therethrough, the opening being designed to accommodate the bolt 6 which is of a length to extend beyond one wall of a picker stick and be positioned in an opening formed in the power stick 7.
The power stick is formed with a head 8 at the upper end thereof, and is provided with a cut out portion 9 to accommodate one Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 25, 1921. Serial No. 474,126.
end of the connecting strap 10, so that the power stick will support the connecting strap 10 in close engagement with the picker stick, throughout the length of the power stick.
A connecting strap 10 is secured to one surface of the power stick, and is formed into a loop 11, the upper end of the strap 10 being positioned in the cut out portion 9 and secured to the power strip by means of the nails 12. The loop 11 forms a bearing for the sleeve 13 that embraces the bolt 14 that secures the lug straps together, at one end thereof, the lug straps being spaced apart to permit the picker stick to operate therebetween.
The opposite ends of the lug straps are connected by means of the bolt 15, which bolt also passes through an opening formed in the sweep stick 16 that operates the picker stick. From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction as described, the lug straps are connected indirectly to the picker stick in a manner to permit the efficient operation of the picker stick and at the same time, the connection affords means to cushion the movement stick while in motion.
It might be further stated that the power stick is provided with a plurality of spaced openings 17 to accommodate the bolts 6, thereby permitting adjusting of the power stick and connecting strap 11, with respect to the picker stick, allowing the sweep stick and lug straps to operate at various levels with respect to the picker stick.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In combination with a picker stick and sweep stick operating the same, a. power stick having a head formed at one end thereof and having a cut out portion disposed adjacent to the head, a connecting strap positioned between the power stick and picker stick, said connecting strap having one end disposed in the cut out portion of the power stick, a lug strap, and means for connecting the lug strap to the connecting strap.
2. In combination with a picker stick and sweep stick operating the same, a power stick having a plurality of openings, a bolt adapted to pass through one of said openings to secure the power stick to the picker stick, a connecting strap disposed between the of the sweep power stick and picker stick and having a In testimony that I claim the foregoing loop portion, lug straps disposed on oppoas my own, I ha ve hereto afiixed my signasite sides of the picker stick, a bolt connectture 1n the presence of two Witnesses.
