H. M. OZMENT.
L0,0M PICKER HEAD. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 25, 1920.
Patented FM) 22, 1921.
E L H A TTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOOM PICKER-HEAD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 22, 1921.
Application filed February 25, 1920. Serial No. 361,137.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY MARVIN Oz- MENT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Schoolfield, in the county of Pitts'ylvania and State of Virginia, have 1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Loom Picker-Heads, of which the following is a specification. V
My invention relates to loom picker heads of that type which is comprised of laminations of leather. I have found in heads of this character that after a brief period of use they become torn and distorted under the action of the shuttle and are thus rendered useless.
It -is a purpose of my invention to materially prolong the life of usefulness of picker heads of this character byinterposing a plate of metal, preferably steel, be-' tween the laminations in suchmanner that the entire head as a unit is reinforced against the detrimental action of the shuttle. At a point corresponding to that point at which the shuttle abuts the picker head,
the plate is provided with an orifice which allows of the free and unrestricted move ment of the shuttle without blunting its point, at the same time insuring a uniform wearing'of the several layers of leather so that the possibility of the shuttle tearing the layers apart as in the usual form of head is eliminated.
I will describe one form of plate embodying my invention and will then point out the novel features thereof in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
one form of picker head having applied thereto the plate embodying my invention.
ers of leather comprised in the picker head, I the uppermost layer being formed with a re cess 15 in which the shuttle point engages the picker in the normal operation of the Figure 1 is a view showing in perspective shuttle. Interposed between the layers L at a point adjacent the top side of the picker head is the plate designated at P, such plate being coextensive in length with the head and of a width less than that of the layers as indicated in dash lines in Fig. 1. As shown in Fig. 3, the plate P is of the general outline as that of the layers L and is provided at a point adjacent one end thereof with an opening 16. The several layers L are provided with similar openings at corresponding points, all of such openings being designed for the purpose of receiving a rivet R for securing the several layers and the plate together. At a point intermediate its ends, the plate P is formedwith an orifice "17 which in the applied position of the plate one form of plate embodying my invention,
it is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made herein with out departing from the spirit of the inven tion and the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A loom picker head formed of laminations of flexible material, a rigid metallic plate interposed between certain of the laminations and of the general configuration as the laminations, said plate being formed with an opening at the point at which the shuttle is adapted to engage the picker head, and a rivet extending through one end of the laminations and through the adjacent.
end of said plate.
- his 7 V HENRY MARVIN OZMENT.
