JOSEPH SAVO IE, OF CENTRAL FALLS, RHODE ISLAND.
BUFFER-BRACKET FOR PIGKER-STIGKS.
Application filed July 12,
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH Savors, a'citizen of Great Britain, residing at 33 Fales street, Central Falls, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buffer-Brackets for Picker-Sticks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in buffer brackets for picker sticks as used on looms for weaving and the particular purpose of my invention is to provide means for more effectually securing to the picker stick the buffer which comes in contact with and drives the shuttle.
My invention is disclosed by the device shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side View or elevation of a portion of the picker stick with the buffer and my improved means of attaching the same to the picker stick clearly'disclosed.
Fig. 2, a view of the same looked at from above.
Figs. 3 and 4, my improved bracket by which the union of the buffer and the picker stick is secured.
The same parts are indicated by the same letters throughout the several views.
In Fig. 1, B represents a side elevation of the upper portion of the picker stick. 0 represents the buffer, usually made of leather or similar substance. D represents the tape or cord wrapping now-commonly used to secure the buffer C to the stick, while A represents the feature of my invention which I designate as the bracket.
In Fig. 2 which is a top view of the picker stick and its connections, 0 represents the leather buffer, and D the tape or cord binding used as a partial security for the buffer,
while ca are arms of my improved bracket. The bracket itself is shown best in Figs. 3 and 4, A in Fig. 3 showing the bracket, struck preferably out of sheet metal and having the side arms or wings a-a'. These arms are partly separable from the body A. of the bracket and are bent before Specification of Letters Patent.

application to the picker stick, as shown in Fig. 4. The bracket A is also perforated, as shown, with holes for screws.
The bracket is shown in position best in Figs. 1 and 2, being secured to the stick B and to the buffer C by the screws indicated in the drawing. The arms aa are disposed one on each side of the picker stick as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and thus serve to prevent any side movement of the bracket or loosening of the same. The arms aa are of a width corresponding to the thickness of the tape or cord binding D and serve also to hold this binding D securely in place and prevent the same from flying off the top of the picker stick.
The ordinary method of securing the buffer to the picker stick is by the binding D alone. As this binding is usually made of tape or cord, it occasionally breaks and the movement of the picker stick, when the binding breaks, throws the leather buffer into the fabric in the loom resulting in serious injury thereto. By the use of my invention, the security of the tape or cord binding is retained, and in addition thereto the bracket is screwed to both the buffer and the picker stick, thus positively insuring against the accildental detachment of the buffer from the stic r.
Having now described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A bufi'er bracket for loom picker sticks consisting of a fiat body struck up from sheet metal adapted to be secured by screws to both the buffer and the picker stick; and having separable side arms disposed one on each side of the picker stick; said arms serving to prevent side movement of said bracket and also to retain in position the tape binding D, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH SAVOIE.
