To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MICHAEL B. GRIFFIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pascoag, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picker- Straps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My inventionhas for its object to provide a picker strap of less expensive nature yet one which will be more efficient and durable than the straps which have for a number of years been used; and With this general object in view the invention resides in the improved strap applied as or substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing,

In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates the lay of a loom, 2 the picker, 3 the picker guide rod, and 4 the picker stick having the usual ofiice of operating the picker to drive the shuttle 5 along the lay.

I-Ieretofore, heavy and rather expensive straps of high grade leather or rawhide have been used for connecting the picker 2 with the stick 4 for returning the former to its initial position after each operation thereof.

These straps have usually been fastened to the picker stick and to the picker by screws and washers and this attaching means has amounted to considerable expense and also to loss of time in substituting a new for a worn or broken strap. In addition to the foregoing undesirable characteristics the old style of strap has been short-lived due to the bending action necessary during the operation of the loom. I overcome all of these disadvantages by the following construction and arrangement.

A small thong 6 of rawhide or other suitable material is passed around the outer end of the picker 2 and the ends of said thon are passed oppositely through an opening in the shank of said picker and tied into knots 8. A second thong 9 is passed through the loop formed of thong 6 and the ends of this thong are passed in the same direction through an opening 10 in the stick 4 and knotted as seen at 11.

The new construction is less expensive than the old arrangement yet operates to greater advantage as no appreciable bending of the strap takes place and thus its life is greatly prolonged.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided an extremely simple and inexpensive picker strap, yet one which will be of great advantage. The exact construction shown is preferably used, but minor changes may be made should occasion dictate.

The combination with a picker and a picker stick each having an opening, of a thong passed around one end of said picker and having its ends passed oppositely through the opening thereof and knotted, and a second thong passed through the loop formed by said first named thong, said second thong havin its ends passed through the opening of sa1d stick and knotted.
