Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. KELLEY, a citizen oi the United States, and a resident of Reading, inthe county of Berks andState of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Lug-Strap for Picker-Sticks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to looms and its object is to provide a new and improved lug strap for picker sticks arranged to permit of convenient adjustmentup or downon the stick for exerting more or less power, tosecurely hold the lug strap in the adjusted position and to allow of fitting the lug strap on sticks of different width and without weakening the stick by holes, notches and the like.

In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made of sweep straps provided with a pivoted striker adapted to engage the outer edge of the picker stick, an abutmentfixed between the outer ends of the saidstraps for the striker to abut against, anda spring connecting the striker with the abutment. Use is also made of a clamping block adjustably secured to the picker stick and connected by links with thesweep straps, the said clamping block being provided on its edges with projecting spurs adapted to embedthemselves in the picker stick, the clamping block having an aperture tlierethrough to one side of the median line for the passage/of a'pin forming part of the clamp to allow of re} versing the clamping block and fittingthe same on picker sticks of difierent widtln A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

To the outer side of a picker stick of the usual construction is clamped a clamping block B by the use of a clamp C, preferably in the form of a yoke C" straddling the picker stick and engaging a pin D extending readily, understood by reference to the drawings. The clamping block. B is provided with spurs B having their pointed ends projecting at both edges of the clamping block so that the block can be reversed, and in either position the projecting points of the spurs engage the material-of the picker stick A when screwing up the set screw E to cause the points to embed themselves in the material and thus hold the block B against accidental shifting on the picker stick A. By reference to Figs. 3 and at, it will be noticed that the pin D extends transversely through the clamping block B to one side of the median line thereof so that the clamping block B can be readily used in conjunction with the clamp G on picker sticks of different width, by reversing the position of the clamping block B on the pin D whenever it is desired to change from a wider picker stick to a narrower picker stick. When the desired adjustment has been made th eset screw E is'locked in posi tion by a jam nut E i The ends or the pin D are connected by links F with a pivot G extending transversely through sweep straps H connected by a bolt 1 with the sweep stick J'connccted with the usual machinery for imparting the desired motion to the picker stick A, as hereinafter more fully explained. The pivot G extends through an elongated aperture K formed in a striker K extending between the sweepstraps'H and adapted to abut against the outer edge of the picker stick A. The striker K is adapted to abut with its outer edge on an abutment L extending between the outer ends of the sweep straps l l and secured thereto by transverse rivets, bolts or similar fastening devices. By the arrangement described'the striker K is disposed intermediate the picker stick A and the abutmentL'andwhen theparts are in contact with each other,as shown in Fig. 3, then the pivot. G is approximately midway "between the ends of the. slot Kf, and consequently the pivot G is relieved of all strain, which latter is taken up by the abutment L. The upper end of the striker K is connected with one end of a spring N, preferably in the form of an elastic webbing, attached at its outer end swings out of engagement with the picker shuttle.
