D..J. HIGGINS LOOM PICKER Filed June a, 1925 w 3f 17 99 mm Patented Apr. 12, 1927.
UNITED STATES DANIEL JOSEPH HIGGINS, OF ADAMS, MASSACHUSETTS.
LOOM PICKER.
Application filed June 8, 1925. Serial No. 35,708.
This invention relates to loom pickers, and its principal object is to provide a picker wherein the striking or impact head may be removed and replaced when worn.
The invention further contemplates a picker which is .detachably supported on the picker rod and is provided with a detachable head that can be readily detached and reversed should one end of the same become 1:) worn, and used further until it is entirely worn and a new head arranged in its place.
With the preceding and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, con- 1.) struction, arrangement of parts and operations, to be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the picker head parts being broken away.
Figure 2 is a horizontal section on line 22 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail where-' in corresponding characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates the usual picker rod.
The invention is associated with the picker rod as shown in Figure l, and comprises an elongated body having one end formed with a tubular casting whose bore 11 receives the picker rod. The body 6 is provided with a relatively large rectangular recess 12 that extends to the upper and lower ends of the body. The numeral designates a substantially elliptical shape in cross section strik-- ing head which extends along the vertical edge of the body 10 and is formed with a right angular extending blade or tongue which is received snugly within the recess 12.- 40
The striking head receives the impact and when it becomes worn at one part thereof, it can be removed and reversed to bring a new area into operative position. Furthermore, when the entire head has become mutilated it may be removed and a new one arranged in its place.
lVhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, I desire to have it understood that such changes may be made in the form, construction, arrangement of parts and operations, as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
lVhat is claimed is A picker for looms comprising an elongated body, a tubular casting formed on one end of said body and adapted to receive a loom picker rod, said body being provided with a recess opening upon the opposite end thereof, a substantially elliptical in cross section striking head extending parallel to the last mentioned edge of said body and engaging the latter and a blade formed with said head to be operatively arranged in said re- 15.; cess.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
DANIEL JOSEPH HIGGINS.
