Se t. 192
p 13, I 7 p, PENNARTZ PICKER FOR WEAVING LQOMS Filed NOV. 10- 1925 Patented Sept. 13, 1927.
PIERRE PENNARTZ,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF LILLE, FRANCE.
PICKER FOR WEAVING LOOMS.
Application filed November 10, 1925, Serial No. 68,054, and in France October 6, 1925.
My invention relates to pickers with removable nose, for use in overpick weaving looms, which will obviate the rapid wear of this portion which makes contact with the shuttle point, by reason of the fact that the said nose may be replaced when worn out, without being obliged to replace the entire picker. I obtain this result in a simple and instantaneous manner and without compl1- eating the body or frame of the picker which remains unchanged, and also without requiring the use of additional means for securing the said nose to the picker body.
The known devices for this purpose are inconvenient inasmuch as they comprlse, in addition to the arrangement for holding the nose portion in a removable manner, additional means whereby the same may be attached, thus offering certain difficulties in the way of inserting and removing the nose portion, so that the substitution of such parts becomes a laborious operation, since the picker must be removed and then put back in place, so that the use of such devices is hardly practical and become costly.
I obviate all such drawbacks by the use of a metallic picker with interchangeable nose portion for overpick looms, in which the said nose portion, which is made of wood, leather, buffalo hide or the like, is removable and is mounted and held in the picker body without any special arrangement or additional securing means.
The said device is described in detail with reference to the appended drawings which are given by way of example.
Fig. 1 is a front View of a. picker for overpick looms according to the invention, Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my improved picker body or frame, with the nose portion removed. Figs. 3 and i are respective end views of the front and rear. Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view. Fig. 6 is a front view of the removable nose portion; Fig. 7 is an end view and Fig. 8 atop plan view of the same.
As concerns my improved picker, this consists of a metallic frame or bod preferably of aluminium, and of a remova le nose portion made of wood, leather, buffalo hide 'or the like.
The said frame comprises a head 1 provided with a cross-piece 2, and the head portion may be of any suitable shape analogous to the head portions for the known pickers made of buffalo hide, the said head having circular apertures 5 for the insertion of the guide rod of the picker.
The body of the picker is cut away for about half the length, and within the remaining part 3 there is formed a groove or recess 6 of circular section adapted for the insertion of the tongue of corresponding shape pertaining to the removable nose memher; 4: represents the remainder of the tail portion of the said picker.
- The removable nose member, made of buffalo hide or of like material, consists of a piece 7 formed in one with the circular tongue 8; said nose member can be at once removed or inserted by sliding the tongue 8 in the recess 6 of the metal body; the part 9 of the nose member serves when the latter is in position as the usual guiding tail of the pickers, in combination with the tail portion 4 of the main body.
Obviously, I may without departing from the spirit of the invention make all necessary improvements and changes in detail. relating for instance to the cross section of the recess for the assembling of the said body and nose member, and the corresponding section of tongue of the removable nose member, as well as to the shape and the nature of the said member.
l/Vhat I claim is:
A picker for overpick weaving looms comprising a frame, having a tubular channel therein open at one end and slotted along the side, and a nose member having a body portion, a strike portion and a cylindrical tongue portion attached thereto by a web member, whereby said cylindrical tongue and web are adapted to easy insertion and removal from said tubular channel and slot,
and whereby said nose member is firmly attached against impact and easily removable by traction.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
PIERRE PENNARTZ.
