f Application filed March 16,1922 serial No. seeosz,
My invention is a shoe constructed witln out lacings or buttons which may be putxon the foot and quickly closed and secured on the foot. I p q Re'terringto the annexed drawing in which my invention is illustrated and which p v the upper as shown'in F1'gure1.- The strap forms a part of this specification;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the outer side of my shoe in closed position;
Figure 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 in open position.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary side view of the upper part of the outer side of my shoe.
Figure 4- is a horizontal section of the upper part ofthe shoe in closed position taken on line 4-1 of Figure 1.
In the drawing 1 indicates the sole, 2 the heel, and 3 the upper of my shoe, the upper being separated at the front and formed with a front flap a, like a buttoned shoe, to close the separation when the shoe is put on, said fiap extending from the inner side of the upper part of the upper across the front and around the upper part of the outer side of the upper.
A leatherlining 5 is secured inside of the upper part of the upper 4, and a strap 6,
secured at its inner end to the inside of flap 4: extends from said flap through a slot 7 in the forward part of the outer side of the upper, and between said outerside, the back and the inner side of the upper and said lining, out through a slot 8 in said inner side and around the outside of the flap d and the outside of the outer side of the upper. The inner end of the strap 6 is substantially as wide as the height of the flap and is secured to the inside of said fiapwith its upper edge coincident with the upper edgeof said flap.v The strap converges from its inner endfor a distance of about half its length to a point 9 of the strap located within the inner side of the upper, and said converging part of the strap is split lengthwise in three places by slots 10, 11 and 12, forming tour spaced strap members 13, 14. 15 and 16, the strap converging part of the strap, the strap member 16 being at the lower edge of said part,
.Lhe outer side of the upper rearwardly from the slot"? s stitchedto the lining 5 by rows'ot stitchingl'i', 18 and 19 respectively through the v slots 10,, 11' and 12, forming guideways 20, 21, 22 and 28 respectively ior the strap members 18,1 1, and 16., A buckle 2dis secured to the outerside of the upper near the back thereof for buckling the outer end of the strap when the strap and upper are drawn around the ankle and tee 1? rap 1 closed "and the'strap members lland 15 being he tweenthe strap meniberslid and 16.
over the forward part of the outer side or" members, enables thefiap to be drawn at.
everypoint snugly around theankle quickly by asingle strap and thus makes it possible" tOput on and take cit the'shoe more quickly than it is possible to puton or take off lace or button shoe, while at'the same time pro viding a shoe of neat appearance. Buttons 25 may be secured to the outside of the fiap near its outer edge to give theshoe the appearance of a buttoned shoe.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1Q in shoe, an upper EOIHGCl' front separation and a front flap-in the manner of a'button shoe, a strap secured at its inner end to the inside of said flap, a lining secured to the inside or said uppe the outer side of said upper having a slot through which said strap extends from said upper, the strap then extending between the outer side, the each and theinner side, and said lining, out throng slot provided in the innerjside of theupp'er, and around the outside of said flap and outer side wall, and a buckle on the outer side of the upper to whichthe outerend of the strap isbuckled'.
In a shoe, an upperformed with a front separation and a front flap in the manner or" abutton shoe, a strap secured at its inner end to the inside of said flap, a lining secured to the inside of said upper, the outer side of said upper having a slot through which said strap extends from said upper, the strap then extending between the outer side, the back and the inner side and said lining, out through a slot provided in the inner sideofthe upper, and around the outside of said flap andouter sidewall, and a hucliile on the outer side. of the upper to which the outer end of the strap is buckled, the inner end (if said strap being substantially Wide as the height of the flap so that it is attached. to the flap substantially its height to draw the flap at every point snugly around the ankle.
3. In a shoe an upper formed with a front separation and a frontiiap in the nianner of a button shoe, strap secured at its inner end to the inside of said flap, a lining secured to the inside of said upper, the outer side'oit' said upper having a slotthrough which said strap extends from said upper 7 the strap then extending between the outer side, the back and the inner side and said lining, out tlui'oug h a slot provided. inthe inner side of the upper, and around the outsideot said flap and outer side Wall, and a buckle on the outer side of the upper to which the outer end .of the strap is buckled,
