Description

P.- Mo,
BOUT 0B. SHOE.'
(No-Model.)
PatenteJuln'e 1,1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
FEDERICH MOOR, OF CHICAGO, lLLlNOIS.
BOOT OR SHOE.
SPECIFICATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 342,806, dated June 1, 1826.
Application filed March 23. i886.
To @ZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that l, FREDERIOH MOOR, a citizen of Switzerland, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boots and Shoes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has for its object to produce a water-tight boot that will admit the foot with ease, and that then can be strapped to make a close and comfortable lit over the instep and around the leg; and it principally consists in connecting between the edges of'y the side of the boot, otherwise connected bythe side seam, a flap of leather that, after the foot has been inserted, is folded inside, and of suitable buckles and straps for tighteningrthe parts over the instep and around the legs, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents an elevation of the boot whenv buckled; Fig. 2, a sectional plan View of the same, and Fig. 3 an A elevation of the boot unbuckled and in condition to slip the foot into it.
Corresponding letters in the several figures ofthe drawings designate like parts.
A is the front, and B the back, of the upper portion of the boot, that, where otherwise connected by the side seam, are left open to below the instep C, or to the point where the counter D is connected to the upper portion, and have sewed between a iiap, E, of thin Serial N0.196,295. (No model.)
iiexible leather, which flap is also connected with the vamp in a manner that it will leave no opening for water to enter. This flap E, after the boot is pnt on, will fold against the inside of the front A of the boot.
Upon the edge of the front A of the boot are secured straps F, and upon the side of back B are secured by leather loops q buckleframes G, and behind such buckleframes G are secured, by riveting, pointed buttons H. After the foot has been inserted into the boot,
which, with this construction, is a very easy 0peration, the flap E is properly folded, and then the stra-ps F are drawn through the buckles G. and with one of a series of holes punched therein, each strap is coupled with its button H.
With this device a boot can be made to fit more comfortable, and particularly its quarter or counter can be made to conform better with the shape of the heel of the foot, since plenty of room can be provided for the entrance of the foot, and yet after buckling it will afford a more close and perfect fit than can be obtained with a boot of the usual construction.
The upper portion of a boot having flap E, straps F, and buckles G, with buttons H, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EEEDEEIGH Moon.
